No Twitter OAuth? Every other login service is free.

There are many oauth options and frankly there's no reason to set them all up anyway. Websites will continue to use it because their customers have accounts set up with them, but there's nothing stopping them from depreciating it and migrating away from it.

Are they locking off OAuth? That's the big one. Because they offer a lot of analytics endpoints, they could make an exception for oauth, because frankly that would be really stupid.

Does it just affect log-in methods related to Twitter, or could this even affect those of us without Twitter?

They killed all third party apps because they violated Twitter rules. Rules that they hadn't actually made at that time.

Even though Muskrat's Twitter woes aren't front page headlines anymore, I wouldn't be surprised if Twitter just stops functioning one day unannounced.

No. That's not what this is. This post is very obviously in reference to Twitter's Oauth2 API and not their SSO API. The Twitter API is very useful for a variety of reasons (I've used it in the past). And it a medium for creating automated posts (e.g. for bots) or App-assisted reading/sending of messages (clients).

I believe The Switch uses it to post screenshots for example.

This change is bad, but not for the reasons being provided. A lot of companies these days are heavily limiting access to their REST APIs, so it's not really that surprising.

There are also huge security vulnerabilities with how most SSO works and if your computer gets comprised you can potentially leak session cookies that will allow an attacker to get control over your account (then again this applies to basically all accounts you have so it's whatever).
