What do Democrats lose by voting for this besides angering leftists online? Has the party switched to wanting to privatize healthcare or lowering the minimum wage?

Most Americans especially in swing states/counties are dumb f***s scared of the word socialist. Republicans will still call Democrats socialists but it would be idiotic for those in swing districts to run straight into it. We lost the House by a few seats, lets ensure we dont win it back for another decade or two by having those Dems run campaigns as being out & proud socialists.

I can imagine the future in which we finally got the socialist policies we wanted enacted and leftists would still be mad because it wasnt officially & loudly accomplished in the name of socialism.

Kind of reminds me of leftists online being angry that John Oliver isnt proudly declaring himself a socialist/communist and saying which specific kind of socialist/communist he is. Like shut up and go touch grass.

I dont think thered be an equal amount of outrage from conservatives towards Republicans though. Theyll either ignore it, quietly agree, or call Democrats fascists instead.

One of my state's reps is active on the NC subreddit and posted this to defend his yes vote:

I think I see this a little differently, having been through some campaigns. The true purpose of this resolution, as many of you have pointed out, was to try to conflate being a Democrat with being a Socialist. The idea was to use any No votes to create a citation for future attack ads along those lines. This was a moment for them to manufacture some misinformation. We should be on guard against efforts like this because the downstream consequences in terms of both elections and agenda-setting can be decisive. They were waiting for any Dem in a remotely competitive seat to vote the other way, but I dont think any did because their trap was so obvious.

Calling things socialism, was literally the ploy the right use to take out any group that they didn't like. From Civil Right groups to Worker Rights good. Good thing Democrats remind people that those people who say both sides when bullshit happens have a point.

We shouldn't be outraged at the 109 democrats who voted against it, we should be glad for the 100+ who didn't. Twenty years ago, or maybe even ten years ago, a vote like this would have been almost unanimous. The fact that they barely had a majority on the democrat side shows progress. I'd love for that progress to be faster but we have to be realistic.

I think the younger generations don't realize how strong the anti-socialist brainwashing was for boomers and gen X. Those of us who grew up in the Cold War had it drilled into us that communism was evil, and that anything even slightly along those lines would lead us on a slippery slope to oppressive dystopian tyranny. I had to spend my adult life unlearning that.

People who have gone into middle age stubbornly believing that will probably never unlearn that. The older, establishment democrats are going to continue to believe that for a decade or two at least.

But I think the tide is slowly turning enough that we're reaching a point that the majority of democrats realize that a capitalist system with some socialism-inspired regulations could actually be good for this country.

Hakeem Jeffries called it out for being BS, then he still voted for it. That is the leader. As black man, he should knot the game that the right plays by calling every single thing that is a tries to help people socialism.

They did it with King,they did it with gay rights, they did it with worker rights, ect. It is one thing for people to still be brained washed and not get it. But he knows this stuff.

Not really, we vote against it and give the same excuse every time. It would run afoul of our free speech laws from the 1st amendment and therefore they'll never denounce Nazi ideology.
