Yep. There's been 2,002 US Senators so far, so only 0.55% of the Senators have been black.

Since conservatives are obsessed with accurate demographics, I hope they're fighting for more black people in Congress. lol

Even more wild when you think about how he basically got butterfly effected into the White House. The Senate spot he won in Illinois was only up for grabs because the actress who plays Seven of Nine was married to the previous Senator (Jack Ryan) came out with some pretty serious allegations about their marriage that destroyed his run.

But those could have been 11 more WHITE people!

This is what people don't get. WHITE people could have had EVERYTHING. And now they only have MOSTLY everything and that is the real crime.

No one should get elected just cause of their race. How many ran for office vs whites? Not saying racism is not involved but not every minority that runs is gonna win even if racism isn't involved and I'm betting the majority of who runs is white.

Just saying we'd probably have more if more ran. Not everyone that runs is gonna win. So the fact I'm sure the vast majority that runs is white is why the number is so low.

Could there possibly be a reason why less black people run for office

Yes but nothing currently is stopping them. I was just trying to explain PART of the reason the number is so low.

Not like they'd get run out of town, harassed by police, or have their families threatened or harmed. Nope, nothing at all.
