Series has a great soundtrack

You could catch Pokemon by clearing a song/stage and the team you build and level up lets you earn more points during a run to unlock harder songs/stronger Pokemon to catch

For example if you're playing a song with a Grass-type Pokemon attached to it, having a Fire-type in your party gives you a 2x multiplier to your score every time you hit a note

Leveling your team extends your health bar so you can miss more notes during a song

The Pokemon you can catch during a song are based on what the song is; for example, a town's theme song will let you catch Pokemon found on surrounding routes, while a character-specific battle theme lets you catch Pokemon that character uses in their party

Sword/Shield was definitely a huge step up for the music quality, but calling the music before those games "mediocre" is just wrong
