I think money wise contenders are guardians 3, mission impossible, new fast movie, little mermaid

They are already building a army of merchandise to sell. All is has to do is not be a crap movie and it's a easy billion

Miyamoto is deeply involved with the process, and since the only previous Mario movie was panned, they're not looking for a repeat.

The whole thing looks like a giant love letter to Mario and it's fans.

The producers of the original movie had no excuse. If they had simply phoned it in, that movie would have been a smash. But they had to change it into something it was never meant to be.

I was surprised by how bleh the reception to Detective Pikachu was (given Pokemon's popularity) so I'm not so sure.

I know kids movies usually make decent profit but it's not going to be getting anywhere close to blockbusters with general appeal. Do young kids even like Mario anymore? I feel like Nintendo is being carried entirely by millennials at this point.

Very true. Though I feel it will be a good film. I like the tweaks they've made to the story to have it make more sense.

It would be a stretch to have Mario trying to rescue someone he's literally never met before, but his brother? His flesh and blood? Yeah, that makes a lot more sense. Then, after he spends time with Peach, if she's ever kidnapped by Bowser in a sequel (you know there's gonna be a sequel, right?) it will makes sense then too.
