You need to think about both geography and climate when thinking about why we don't have crews readily available to handle this at the drop of a hat. Where you're from, the conditions exist in which it's expected that storms and other things of that nature will often occur. In central texas, these conditions rarely occur. I mean rarely. That's likely to change moving to change moving forward, but this is the case for our current situation.

It's not a "Texan" thing either. I'm from coastal Texas originally where hurricanes and tropical storms regularly whip through and wreck us, and because those conditions are normal there we'd get our power back pretty quick after the storm rolled through. The worst weather we historically get here in Central Texas though is that it's too hot. You might as well ask why we don't have salt trucks for the roads.

What happened in Feb 2021?

Hmm.....keeps happening. Hmmm blame Biden for it!

How that working out?

Hey

Pal

I'm a fucking democrat living a democrat run city. I voted for Biden. In November I voted for the more liberal mayoral candidate that lost to another democrat. City council is full of democrats. We're all democrats here. You see Texas and think Austin is full of idiot republicans that hate democrats and blame Biden for gas going prices going up and you're off base.

the people in charge of Texas electricity and gas don't care about the citizens just the big corps profits

literally look them up

That's sadly true pretty much everywhere, just some places do a better job of hidding their true intentions.

ok.

but then you would think you would understand why the state in unable to fix their stuff in a timely manner when the governor blames Biden and Wind Turbines while letting the energy corps gouge the citizenry and not use that money to actually prepare for the next time

This isn't the state, why can't you understand that? It's the city. The person that's losing their job is the city manager, because he dropped the ball. It wasn't the state government, it was the city government. You know where the power is fine? The rest of the state. It's a problem in Austin because the city has grown denser and denser and the city does not have the resources to address it. Not the state. The city.

what do you think infrastructure means?

if your state government won't spend the money when it's needed to keep the power on then they're just admitting whatever deaths happen are acceptable

It's like you didn't read my post where I explained that the state does have the infrastructure in place to address these e problems in areas where they're expected to happen, like a long the coast where power comes on quickly after storms so long as your house hasn't been blown away.

Again, historically freezes do not occur in central Texas. You can point to two years ago and say "SEE!?" but when else has a freeze ever happened here? Moving forward it needs to be addressed, but your foolish if you think a city government can just snap it's fingers and have the manpower to handle an emergency that the city has faced all of once in its history.
