Did you instantly go fight him right away? He's like 10x harder with an unupgraded weapon to facing him with a +3. Go explore some more.

I heard the guy who made Dark Souls 2 was up to his old tricks.

Theres also a secret item you can find that briefly shackles Margit to the ground.

Okay done, giving up on this. You beat me, game. Be proud of yourself.

These games cheese you so do the same back. Pick the most cheesiest op weapons and attacks and ggez it. Dunno why so many people are so bent on playing one specific way to win in a game.

I know players have their pride, and all, but have you used your ashes for help.

they're a nice crutch until everything clicks, IMO.

Beelining right for Margit was the biggest mistake I made in ER. Theres a lot to explore to the south, head there, grab some gear and some levels and maybe the Bloodhound Fang

Make use of the spirit abilities as well as co op the bosses.

Murdered his dumb butt when I got a better shield and some levels in endurance.

That was certainly a fight that existed.

I picked up a tier 3 smithing stone in Stormveil Castle. Until now Ive only found two tier two smithing stones.

That heavily suggests Im not supposed to be here. But I feel like Ive explored every part of the map available to me. Am I supposed to go offmap?

yes.

Hes pretty easy if you use spells. A melee build isnt your only path. If youre focused on melee only then you need to grind.

Go get some early spells like rock sling, meteorite staff, and glintstone pebble.

Go south if you're looking for somewhere a bit easier. Try to get your weapon as high as you can and get a good spirit summon.

Also remember you're lucky. In the beta I could not beat him without another player for the life of me. When the game came out I actually felt bad for beating him on the first try.

by which which i mean ladies foolish ambitions to rest, because i didn't want to use ashes at first, but eventually the game made it clear that it has no problem pitting me against two bosses at a time, bosses with entourages, etc, so my tune changed real quick on that one

if you mean co-op summons, that's fine. i didn't use any players to help either

That does happen but it's only limited to a small number of bosses. I agree it's bullshit but I don't think that applies to Margit.

The little dagger swipe is basically undodgeable if you're in melee range when it comes out. You kinda just have to learn to predict where in a combo it can occur and move away from him for that time.

yeah, every tine I dodged the swipe I got hit by the bsckhand return. Was annoying.

The next boss is a joke in comparison to Margit.

Anyone other than me think the flailing tube boss in the bottom of the dungeon below your starting point could have had a boss room about 25-35% larger?

My advice is ditch the shield and level endurance so you roll and dodge attacks.

You ain't gonna be happy trying to beat this game Ashless because it specifically makes some bosses complete bullshit as if they assume you're going in using Ashes.

It's a common complaint about those particular bosses. They're a mess because they're huge, the room is too small, and you can't even remotely keep track of what's going on.

It will only get worse.

Margit, moreso than pretty much any boss in the game, can essentially option select. You're basically fighting an invader with a boss moveset. It's definitely meant to overwhelm new players so they'll go explore the world and power up, since he's more complicated than memorizing a couple patterns and persisting.

I dont understand how the bosses can be designed to take account of two people, AI or no, in the srena and not become incredibly exploitable to just being defensive until their aggro changes.

Major story bosses later have big health bars and huge AOE attacks clearly meant to fight multiple players or AI characters. It really sucks trying to Jolly Co-Op in Elden Ring too cause you'll be near end game being summoned into someones game and they only have like 20 fucking vitality and get one-shot by a big AOE attack.

The bosses are definitely not designed around you needing to use ash summons, that is cope. There is one or two points in the game where they throw two of a boss at you (gargoyle is what comes to my mind) that are pretty dumb to fight alone and those are a bad mark on the game imo. But 99.99% of ER is comfortably completable without summoning. If DS2 Sentinels DS2 gargoyles or Ornstein & Smough or 4 Kings etc were in ER people would claim that's evidence it was designed around ash summons too

Summoning turns bosses in ER into a fucking joke purely from split aggro giving you massive openings to either nuke the boss or heal if you're weak. Only like some of the lazy gank bosses want you to summon, the entire game being built around summons is a ridiculously laughable statement.

Elden Ring is a weird departure from the previous From Soft boss ideology, which was to learn a boss's patterns and use that knowledge to git gud

Seeing combos get extended seemingly randomly and bosses reacting to actions on the first frame was pretty disappointing imo

Elden Ring is the easiest game FS has ever made. There isn't a shred of challenge to be found anywhere in it. It was pretty sad honestly.

It's weird, ER is my first FS game and I love it and am in the middle of a NG+ run. I will say that sometimes I've gotten hit a lot because some of the attacks are a bit too delayed. I will roll out of the way too soon and get hit with it because I expect them to be quicker. Other times they just shred you with no chance of dodging. I'm impatient and greedy a lot and those are some issue, but sometimes it's the boss/game itself.

Imagine starting the game, exiting the tutorial area, starting to explore the world, seeing this cute little ruin city on the lake, exploring it and finding a treasure chest and then YOU JUST GET FUCKED!
