Big Mouth being a new IP versus taking an existing IP, claim youre placing it into adult situations, but then strip everything out of it to make it recognizable to the original IP

Pretty much. If you try to capitalize on an existing franchise, forcing it to be something that's completely unrelated to that franchise outside of the names and vague character designs is mostly just going to bother people.

Especially considering the original characterizations were rife for conflict. Instead they just made up new characters and then called people racists for not liking the show. Great way to garner a fandom.

Indeed. There was tons of room to make a more adult series about Scooby Doo and the gang while remaining true to what's been established, but they just didn't do that.

Big Mouth and Velma both suck, idk how people tolerate humor that's just... not funny. That's the whole point

I had to look it up, and I'm still not entirely sure if this topic is about the comedy on Netflix or a South Korean lawyer show.

I think the art style was a deliberate choice because the subject of the show is young teenagers and sex, and I think they really wanted to dodge the allegation that they were fetishizing children. And I have heard that it's actually pretty okay (unlike Velma).

I somehow got through two or three seasons of Big Mouth before dropping it. Its very crass and the humor seems targeted at immature teenagers, not adults. Im not sure I laughed once across all the episodes I watched.

For whatever reason, Big Mouth received critical acclaim upon its release. The exact opposite of what Velma has gotten.

Big Mouth has more going for it in general, it's one of the few shows to tackle kids in a more realistic tone especially as puberty hits. It goes a bit beyond the line on what they show and they really don't pull punches, but I think it's got something going for it.

The show has gone downhill slowly since that first season though. I found the show rather funny at times, some of the jokes didn't land but the first season I had a good time watching it and remembering back to being that age. I think adults in some cases can downplay how hard puberty is and how hard it is to get hardons or something at a very bad time.

Big mouth gets all kind of hate, but honestly, the show started great with it's covering of puberty.

The point is Velma has no point to exist, it appears to be made purely to humor a small group of people behind the show. Either that or it was created to be such a piece of shit that it makes people so pissed they talk about it and watch it so they can then spout off about how much it sucks.

This shit does work you just don't see it often, I remember when Howard Stern was public enemy #1 and had a good number of haters that those that hated him actually listened longer and more often, than his actual fans or people that thought he was decent but not great.

The real problem is that it's kind of a subjective thing. I know puberty for me was never as bad any any sitcom or movie has ever portrayed it, so from my perspective it feels like most other people are overplaying it.

So any given story is going to treat it differently. There's no one right way to portray it, because no matter what you do there will always be people who say "That's not what it was like for me."
