There's 3 groups of people with regard to this game

-Those who want it to score high because it triggers the libs
-Those who want it to score low because they hate Rowling
-Everyone else

My implication is there's a large overlap between group 1 and gamergate types, which now all of a sudden think "actually game journalist good"

I agree that group 1 and gamergate types would overlap, but I also think there are people who consistently pay attention to Metacritic and people who consistently don't. I often see people saying "oh, now you all care about Metacritic" when usually it is not involving the same people. For instance, I always pay attention to it, as it is a good starting point for games that are worthwhile (even if I don't ultimately always agree with the consensus).

But I see your point now.

No, I am invested in being anal about how it dropped one point immediately after your post as a way to make fun of you being weirdly invested about how it went up one point.

You're not personally a transphobe for buying this stupid game. Doesn't mean you might not be one for other reasons, but I only have this to go off of so I can't speculate.

You are, however, supporting an explicit transphobe with your purchase, one who has said she considers people still buying wizarding world products tantamount to support for her position. I don't really buy this, but on the other hand the idea of giving her even pennies worth of extra ability to influence literally anything rubs me the wrong way.

So, like, take that how you will. End of the day it's your choice whether you play it or not. That's what ethical and moral dilemmas are all about. Personally, I'll either pirate it for PC or wait until I can buy it secondhand if I really want trophies for it.

However, if your horse in this race is entirely based on how much it either being good or bad or purchased/not purchased hurts other people, you should probably go to therapy, because that's a real fucked up attitude

glad to see, finally, a good big budget HP game. One of my biggest gaming desires for years.

Now if we can just get Jill in a new RE game, Dino Crisis Remake, and a new Splinter Cell game.

I never got into HP. Was past the age group the movies were targeted towards and I don't read books willingly, generally (bad ability to focus when it's completely silent and bad experience with school shoving down my throat garbage I didn't care to read like Where the Red Fern Grows and Catcher in the Rye). So I have absolutely zero interest in this. It's easy for me to ignore and even more so knowing the political buzz surrounding it.

I do agree with the concerns with its association with Rowling. Because of her political leanings. She gets royalties on the HP brand. So buying new means your money is going to promotion of her toxic and problematic views. It's unfortunate since good people in the dev are getting caught in the crossfire and it looks like it's a genuinely good game. So their efforts are getting soured by this discourse. Reminds me of A Hat in Time and the devs not acting or speaking up about the inclusion of JonTron's voice after he made his comments and still haven't to this day. I haven't gotten the game as a result despite finding it interesting enough to play.

They are greedy goblin bankers so it makes sense that they would be obsessed with Gold. Do the books ever make any reference or relation to the goblins being part of the Jewish faith? If not then it seems pretty racist on your part to make that connection for no reason. Shame on you.

Some guy named victor rockwood shows up and goes "oooh grrr you better give me that wand boyo it's my birthright grrr." then you do a really boring generic fight against a bunch of helpless mooks, a QTE where your concentrated toilet water beam pushes back his instakill spell, then he joins the fight and gets dumpstered just like one of his regular minions.
Edit: WE GOT FORCED SLOW WALKING WHILE THE CHARACTERS TALK, TO HELL WE GO!

And I'm only 10 mins into a 45 min video. I want it to either get worse or better, I don't care which.

Being able to respecc and unlocking all the skills are different things.

Games can allow someone to respec while still preventing them from unlocking every skill. Sometimes people try out something and don't like it and would rather try something else.

I dunno about being able to unlock all the skills, but the game does have multiple endings so some of the decisions made in-game have story ramifications.

And now he's running through a cave assaulting midgets and other generic looking enemies. A bunch of teachers show up and start playing the game for him. It's like dodge and spell are the only buttons that matter since everything you do looks like an auto-hit.
It's like a mix between Fable 2 and that Forspoken game that just came out.

I just mean it usually doesn't matter as much when it's like Ubisoft/Horizon style when it comes to skill unlocks since you generally can easily unlock everything you'd want anyway and it doesn't overly change your gameplay style that much.

From what I understand in these reviews it sounds like this game is more like a Ubisoft style RPG.

Quotes like this in the IGN review seem to indicate that?

Chaining together abilities to make your opponents look like complete fools never stops being amusing, especially as you unlock talent tree perks that enhance your skills with modifiers that make your elemental spells fork to nearby enemies or transform into AoE attacks.

Like that doesn't sound like stuff that overly matters. Just choosing between different ways to do more damage with the same attacks.

It's actually funny how much this game reminds of an Ubisoft AAA game. Reviews well, does what it needs to, setting is the most interesting part, jack of all trades master of none etc.

Okay I kinda wish the video had skipped right to this but here's what it is, here's your end guy.
A midget named Ranrok shows up, he says goblins built the underground place that contains all the super ultimate ancient magic. He zaps the big power container thing and merges with all the power floating out of it and turns into one of those Pilgrim Butterflies from DS3. Just imagine Bed of Chaos uprooted, flying around and breathing fire like a dragon. That's it.
On-screen prompts feed you an easy win. Press the button to catch dark magic blasts and throw them back.

There's a second phase where it stops flying and at at least tries to move around a little more. Weird collision too. I've seen him get launched for barely grazing something and not react at all to a dragon kicking him while charging forward.

Before the fight there was a choice whether you want to leave the secret ancient magic a secret or try to use it so maybe the fight can play out differently but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Some guy named Professor Fig does a fakeout death before the fight then dies for real at the end when they re-seal all the ancient magic. Then he monopolizes the ending cutscene.
Maybe there's a true ending maybe if you take the ancient magic you can raise hell or something.

I don't know how the rest of the game plays out but that combat would be a deal breaker for me. Pick the color of the beam that auto-wins the fight for you.

Eh I'm just having flashbacks to people writing up essays about how terrible TLoU2 is based off of YT gameplay videos they've watched lol
