she had blood work done since she's ~8 weeks pregnant. They said hormone levels are low so they will do an ultrasound this afternoon. My mom/sister are expecting the worst, as this could be an indicator of a miscarriage. Feeling in a weird place right now. I want everything to be ok, but part of me is really expecting a bad phone call later today =/

My mom had a bunch of miscarriages in between my brother and me. They are very upsetting

Sorry to hear. Miscarriages are surprisingly common. About 10% of pregnant women have miscarriages, sadly.

Miscarriages are way more common than we realize. It's not a good idea to share that you're pregnant until you're well into the pregnancy. Society needs to talk about miscarriages way more because if we knew how common they were and how many women experience them, they'd probably be slightly less devastating, and people could have more realistic expectations dealing with early stages of pregnancy.

She will cry a lot. And then time will heal her.

Yeah, she told me and my wife, and our immediate families very early. Was waiting until around 3 months to tell everyone. May not happen at this point.

her second, she has a girl who is almost 3 now. I don't think they really have told her anything (she understands the concept of babies being in mommy's tummy, as I understand it, but they haven't told her about her potential sibling yet, as far as I know), so not sure how they'll handle that.

My sister broke from this rule on her third pregnancy only. I guess she was feeling safe since the first two pregnancies went well. Nope, of course the third was a miscarry.

I was always scared those first 12 weeks my wife was pregnant. Thankfully they went well, and we're not trying our luck again.

I alway heard you should wait past the 1st trimester (12 weeks) before you start sharing your pregnancy because of how high the risk of a miscarriage is. My cousin had a miscarriage in secret that no one knew about except her mom. Luckily her 2nd attempt at pregnancy went smoothly, but she told us about it waaaay after the fact

Im so sorry. First trimester miscarriages are very common sadly. Shes not alone in this. I hope she gets some good news against all odds.

my wife and i went through this last august and it was really a rough time. not knowing for weeks is what made it worse.

Yeah I saw that number too.

Bad news: She did indeed miscarry. They will be waiting 1-2 weeks for her to naturally take care of the miscarriage. Otherwise, there are pill/surgical options if that does not happen without intervention.

She's in as good spirits as one could expect. They plan on continuing to try to have their second child. My mom was having a particularly hard time dealing with the worry about it. She's doing ok now as well.

They told her it was about 25% of pregnancies that result in miscarriage. Based on everything, this was not entirely unexpected, but sad/difficult nonetheless.

Damn, sorry to hear that TC. That's rough. It's good that they're still in good spirits though

Very sorry to hear that, TC. We were fortunate with our one and only child but a number of my friends have gone through miscarriages and its just awful.

It's much more common than that. What's slightly less common is for a miscarriage to happen after 8 weeks. Usually happens so fast that women don't know they were ever pregnant.

thanks for the support, all. just trying to be there for her if/when she wants to talk, and we'll see where things go for them longer-term

We had a three year old when we had our miscarriage. He didn't really have any feeling about it one way or the other.

My wife is currently pregnant after having a miscarriage last January.
Scares the hell out of me about it possibly happening again.

How was the twins experience for you? My wife herself is a twin, and part of me kind of hopes she has twins (they say it can increase the chance). Was it a lot tougher than one newborn, in your experience?

The twins just turned four and we've loved having twins. It was tough at times though. Double the work like changing them, feeding them, potty training them. Also double the cost and our house is feeling a little cramped already.

In other ways they're easier now than our first because they can play and entertain each other. They are the best of buddies.

They're fraternal twins and I've read that you can have a higher likelihood of having twins after a miscarriage because the body may release an extra egg for some reason. I'm guessing that's what happened with us given they're fraternal and we were just coming off a miscarriage.

Also, maybe the toughest thing was the sleeping. It seemed like at times it was tough to get them both to sleep at the same time and keep one from waking up the other one.
