F*** that.

I could see like if they want to retire like James Earl Jones for Obi-Wan but otherwise thats so iffy.

Yea... then they never get work again because it's cheaper to use a PC you already have, than pay a new employee.

Fuck that shit dude.

That's literally a unique part if the person. Something that helps define them as them. That is very different than the ability everyone else has to flip burgers

Yeah, I have no issue if an established, retiring actor agrees to have his voice digitally recreated, especially as he would have the clout to have that agreement be pretty iron clad (voice can only be used for Darth Vader, fees for future performances go to my estate, and what not).

But your average voice actor isn't exactly rolling in dough or financial security. And if a condition for getting a gig that means they can make that months rent is to sign their voice away, then they are not able to negotiate from a place of any leverage and can get suckered into some real bullshit contracts.

That would not be a smart move for the actors for multiple reasons.
It could negatively impact their security even outside of the profession...

ALL citizens should be against this.

meanwhile on the opposite ends some VAs managed to wrangle contracts where only they can voice that character and nobody else no matter what, like say in japan only what's his face can voice Yugi and he's extremely expensive to get as such Yugi could barely ever be used, in english only what's his face can voice Cloud Strife and as such Cloud in super smash bros will always only have his japanese voice due to union rules and finally there's Disney's Hades, only James Woods can voice that character no matter what if he can't Hades must be silent or must not appear he was his voice even in extremely minor roles like House of Mouse and that shit gacha game that died a year after launch.
