Please choose

A: every week, for every hour worked after 40 hours, you are paid 150% of your normal wage. eg if you are regularly paid $20/hr, you are paid $30/hr

B: every week, for every hour worked after 40 hours, you can claim an extra 50% of work time at your normal wage. For example, if you work 60 hours, you will credit this as 70 hours.

a job Im applying for lets you choose how OT is paid out. Ive never heard of the B option before, but Im leaning towards it. All else held equal, its the same pay for less hours worked, right?

Edit: I had my math wrong. Im not sure what the pros/cons of B would be.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

every hour after hour 40 is actually 1.5 hours. So if you work 50 hours at $10/h, youd get
(40+(10*1.5))*10
= $550

under option A, this would be
(40*10)+(10*(10*1.5))
= $550

I worked both options at my old job which let you "bank" the extra hours up to 300 a year. I would take those hours to book paid days off while working a 2nd job. I'd work overtime and accumulate the hours, then book days off with then through out year while working a 2nd job. So I'd end up working 3 days at my full time job a week while working another 3 days at my part time job. Still getting paid full hours.

Option b lets you claim more experience.

Say you worked 70 hours one week. Option a has you count it as 40 regular hours and 30 OT hours. Option b has it count as 85 hours worked.

Perhaps you could work different positions that have different pay. If that was the case then the second option could let you specifically get OT for the better paying role.
