This is by design.

Bulk food like canned products are designed for durability and shelf life.

When I make tomato soup I use whole milk instead of water and about half as much as called for. Much better. Also lots of pepper and some Tabasco.

funfact: Vanilla flavoured ice cream is between 200~600 years older than the discovery of vanilla.

Agreed. There's a reason canned soup is mostly bought to start a soup that will be a million times better.

Canned tomato soup made with milk instead of water and with a tiny splash of red wine vinegar is legitimately pretty great. By and large, though, canned soup is indeed not great and its value comes mostly from the convenience and not the taste.

Not true. The Totonac people of Mexico have been cultivating vanilla since the 1100s and it was most likely used by earlier Mesoamerican cultures much farther back. You're mistaking its introduction to Europe via Cortez as its discovery.

that's typically what is meant by discovery in the historical context... i mean, no one 'discovered' America

That's the European historical context that is very ethnocentric, self-serving and self-gratifying.
