I had a friend in high school that failed a ton of classes because he was playing Runescape lol. He ended up getting held back a year.

My friend's roommate in college played WoW nonstop. I honestly didnt see him away from his computer except to rarely go to the dining hall. I doubt he ever went to class >_> He ended up failing out and not coming back after a year.

I knew someone similar that failed out because they played League of Legends all the time and were waaaaaaaaay too into it

My brother's wife played it nonstop, neglecting kids. She didn't do squat to help out. Barely fed them lunch, didn't make any dinner, didn't clean anything, didn't do shit. I think she was taking online courses and ended up quiting them. But yeah this went on for like two years she just did nothing but play wow. Brother had to work and then do all the cooking cleaning and raise the kids. Of which there were 8

Only two were his. When he finally had enough of this and her going out to cheat on him and get pregnant again, this came up in court and I told the judge all about it. He got custody of his two and she went to Ohio with the rest

She eventually quit playing it I guess. She has 11 kids now

i've never met the guy in real life but spoke to him a lot on discord. he stopped attending his community college classes and would just play Runescape all day lol. he already had a max cape and max gear so he didn't really need to grind anymore but he liked to stay online and chat w/ people and stake at the duel arena.. also streamed to a small audience (up to like a hundred people at the peak). i used to give him gp so he could stake for me because i didn't have the stats. we'd split the gp like 70/30 (me getting the larger chunk)

One of my friend's kid got kicked out of high school for attendance issues because all he did was play video games.

I used to lend him games but my friend asked me to stop so that he'd have to get a job if he wanted to play new stuff.

No, but I did know a person about 15 years ago who was so addicted to WoW that they would forget to go to work because they would lose track of time and eventually got fired.

In college, the guy in the dorm next to me played Doom &/or Duke Nukem at least 16 hours a day. No bullshit. All hours of the day and night I could hear gunfire from the game. He flunked out after 2 semesters then started a software firm - on the advice of his computer science professors.

Around 2003, I heard he was bought out for a few million and he's probably playing vidya games 16 hours a day again.

I dropped out of high school to play Runescape full time.

Nope. But on a free to play MMO I was playing at the time, my guild disbanded because a guy convinced most of the active members to go play WoW instead.

I was so mad about it because it was a good guild lol

Friend of mine has severe daddy issues because her dad played wow all throughout her childhood instead of being present. It fucked her up a lot and she had serious attachment issues for I dunno, 10-15 years, with her relationships being trainwreck after trainwreck.

I didn't fail out of school because of games. I was a bad student who did no work even before video games. I dropped out of school because I was depressed and played games all day as a way to pass the time and to cope with my depression. A form of addiction and escapism basically.

The games are what we fill the time with.

The crippling mental illness is why we failed ^.^

I knew people who definitely had their grades suffer over it or other games, mmos and regular alike. Myself included >.>

But can't think of anyone that flunked out over it or anything like that.

Someone at my middle school (not in any of my classes) would take almost every friday off of school just to play Halo 2 online with his dad >_> Apparently his grades were fine which is shocking

i don't really remember a whole lot, it was a long time ago (pre-cataclysm) and there was a lot of [illegal activities]. it was a whole dorm suite of nerds at a nerd college (and then in an apartment together) and they all played way, way, way too much WoW. i didn't live there and didn't play with them so i don't remember all the details. they all had academic issues time and again but i dont think any of them (maybe one?) failed out completely. these days everyone is doing all right and only one of them still plays WoW (he's a biology teacher). they all live in different places now but still play d&d remotely together every week

I'm so glad I quit playing RuneScape. It got one of my years of life (over a decade period).

It's kinda depressing to know that all of my accomplishments back then are now basically shit and can likely be accomplished in like no time.

One kid in my high school was held back a class because of WoW. He used to be a good student but just gave up on everything else when he got into that game. When he would show up he'd just be tired and barely mentally there, because he was just gaming all night instead of sleeping.

Then when I got into Ragnarok Online I had a guild member who was regularly clocking in 60 hours of active online time per week. I didn't know much about him irl but I can't imagine school life was going great at that time.

Back in the day, a whole bunch of my mate's beermonster friends discovered WoW and failed uni/got fired because they became addicted to it.

It was pretty funny to watch, considering many of them used to take the piss out of me for being a nerd.

Maybe people gotta get it out of their systems early lol. I remember I got hooked on Runescape during my sophomore year of high school and I got a D in one of my classes for the marking period lol. My mom stopped me from playing Runescape and using the computer and I recovered my grade afterwards and learned from it >_> I guess you gotta make mistakes when you're young before you get more responsibility (within reason of course)

No, but I knew a guy who quit his job after his mom agreed to pay for his WoW subscription. He constantly said that was the only reason he was working, and quit as soon as she started paying for it.

OK, so I used the 'Superb owl' as an excuse to ring up my old college buddy. He says after Doom & Duke Nukem he got into BioShock and Half-Life. Now he says he's mostly into crowdfunded games and playtesting them. He joked he's still officially unemployed though.

His wife (same girl from college) is a professor of oceanography and he's a stay at home dad.

I had a friend like that back in high school. He steadily gave up on outside life and personal hygiene for playing FF11 constantly. When he did come to school, we could tell he had been wearing the same clothes for days because we would recognize the stains on his shirt from a week ago. I stopped hanging out with him once the smell became unbearable.

A mutual friend of ours went to visit him a few years later, and he had only gotten worse by then. He described the smell in his room as being so bad you could visibly see it in the air
