same as topic title

You're invited to a family member or friend's event that was planned for a couple of days/week to a couple weeks in advance. By last minute, I mean the night before, or the day of (in the morning). It could be a concert, sporting event, a restaurant, their house, etc. You aren't the only one of course. They already invited others.

An old friend and coworker for instance just invited me to his house to watch the Superbowl and eat BBQ this morning. I s He asked me if I was doing anything today, and I responded that I wasn't doing much and "why what's up?" He then told me. I haven't responded back an hour and a half ago. I feel really embarrassed. Especially since I've been suggesting to him if he wants to hang out once every couple of months with another coworker who used to live there, and he was kinda dodging it.

This is just my personal opinion too, being invited very last minute to an event that had to take several days... Just feels weird. It might depend on my relationship with the person and what event it is of course. But I always feel really embarrassed and don't want to be eager to join. Maybe its part of my culture as well.

It depends on the circumstances. If it is someone that I legit dont hang out with very often, and its an invite on a spur of the moment meeting with them, then no big deal. Or if it is a last minute invite because someone cancelled on them.

If it is a last minute invite from a friend or group that I see regularly, and it is for a party, then my reaction would probably be What the hell

It's usually annoying. Especially if they are close friends.

A friend of mine always invites me to things last minute. He says it's because I have kids, and he never knows if I'll be busy or not... But like... The earlier you invite me the more likely I'll be able to show up lol I can make plans to find a babysitter or something. Can't do that last minute. Doesn't take sense.

Indifferent. I don't really put assumptions on anything others do. Or if I do, I immediately write it off as having no actual evidence. There's always thousands of reasons something can happen.

I probably won't go, since they gave me no time to get in a social mindstate tho. You can't really just spring social shit on introverts lol. It's rare I'll immediately be in the mood.

I appreciate the responses from everyone. Really insightful!

Feels weird when they caught me in a, "I'm not busy today." But I don't wanna make up a lie for not going.

If it's someone I barely know or family that pulled something like that I wouldn't care and wouldn't go either way. I don't show up last minute for people I don't really care about. As for friends doing that, I wouldn't question it because so many of them work the most random hours they're not always capable of sticking to their original plans. If I get invited last minute, I will just show up as long as I'm not already in the middle of something else.

Usually annoyed because I know I would normally have fun at whatever they invited me to, but without time to mentally prepare myself I get agitated and can't enjoy it; or say no and regret it later.

I didn't put annoyed as an option, because I'm sure most would feel that first XD

I honestly just say Im not in a social mood when I don't want to. You don't gotta lie. You're a grown adult and they just have to accept it or be lil bitches about it. And if they're little bitches about it, they're too annoying to keep around anyway lol.

And Im not saying they shouldn't try to convince me or anything. Im just saying if you don't let it go after I take a hard stance, you can go somewhere.

Youre putting way too much thought into this. They asked if you were free and then invited you. Ruminating over them not inviting you sooner isnt healthy. Go if you want to go, and if not say thanks but no thanks.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Depends.

Free, sure i will make the effort & time for it. Sucks i was a last minute invitee but glad my name was even brought up.

Partial/full payment... who the event is for, if i have any interest and who will be at the event really determines if i go. Again, last minute invites id gladly take if i had at least 8-12hrs to prep. Like if i need to buy a suit for a formal event, id want at least a week to tailor my new suit

I just told him I appreciated it, but I said I was good, and I was down next time.

Not the greatest response.
