I dont consider legitimate criticism to be shitting on it, but there also isn't a lot of legitimate criticism against the game

Clunky Ring is a good game and doesn't afraid of anything.

I just found myself pretty damn bored within an hour of playing the game. Perhaps it gets better, but I don't really have the patience for "wander around this sprawling map with pretty much no goal or direction and sometimes wander into unforeseeable death".

i notice a lot of them freak out about the game really defensively even when they aren't being argued with. it's a very weird look and feels kind of attention hungry

Yeah I've seen your takes on you being bad at the game, but it gives tons of goals and direction, it just doesn't hold your hand. And there's very few cases of unseen, unavoidable death.

Honestly the only bad one is the fire giant

They have the right to their opinions, same as anyone else, articulated well or not.

I feel like this is partly in response to the topic about wishing rhr game had a say to track quests.
And nobody was saying anything bad about the game there.
Even if there are many valid criticisms one could level at the game.

It's a fantastic game, but to act like it's beyond any criticism isn't doing any favors to the community.

It's pretty on brand for the Soulsborne community and why they're generally labeled as insufferable.

Every time a FROM game comes out it's the same chorus:

They made the game they wanted to and not the game I wanted them to!

Five substantial and accurate criticisms? Doubtful.

The game isn't perfect but there's few places where it really fails, most are just things it could have done better.

Except I've admitted the game isn't perfect. What I'm saying is it doesn't have any flaws so huge to be a real criticism - most of the problems are with a couple individual bosses.

I'm willing to bet whatever five things you list. They'd either be not a major issue, not true, or not an actual problem.

This. I know TC is posting in bad faith, but it's very true about the Soulsborne taking any form of criticism for their games. It's why I stopped for a long time. Most of their responses is always "git gud" even though it had nothing to do with my criticism.

I agree but there's no way to influence their opinion so why worry about what they have to say? It's not like the game is underrated or anything? It's one of the most popular and most successful games of last year.

i was sold a bill of goods. it was my first souls game but i knew somewhat what i was getting into.

i was told, "massive open world, loads of nooks and crannies, mysteries, unique secrets, etc."

what i got was the same copypasta'd catacombs scattered across an empty map with the occasional enemy mob that was either way out of my level or way under my level

i gave it 80 hours. that's a lot. i did enjoy the boss fights. but everything else just felt like a chore (including having to cheese some of the boss fights).

i never felt like it was gripping me though. i just felt forced to try and keep pushing because it was allegedly this GAME OF ALL TIME HOLY SHIT game.

was it good? sure. but it should be referenced in the dictionary next to the word "overrated."

The end is an effort of misery and soured the entire game. It's like they just didn't bother to balance anything and said fuck it you're useless.

Honestly I love the ending areas(haven't done Malenia's area yet but I'd consider that postgame) I just think it doesn't have the best posses. Fire Giant isn't very well designed, and godskin duo isn't as bad as people say but is some lazy design. Other than that I love it all

I mean, the map isn't empty by any means, and I've had more fun exploring it than any other open world game. It really sounds like you just don't like the souls like gameplay that much, as it doesn't hold your hand or explicitly guide you. Specifically you remind me of a lot of people who complained about the skeletons in early Dark Souls because they didn't find the "intended" early area. It's fine if you don't like it, but not really a knock against the game.

Ehhhh gotta disagree with you pretty hard. Individual areas feel a LOT like old school Dark Souls - areas like Leyndell, Volcano Manor, or Raya Lucaria for instance.
