Its obvious critics are just over superhero movies. If any Phase 4 film came out during Phase 1 it would have been 90% on RT.

Feels like everything they're doing is just filler until we can get F4 (and more importantly Doom) and the X-Men

This might be true. I havent really noticed a change in quality for most of the movies since phase 1. Theres some really great ones that come every now and then. Most of them are about the same quality as the last though. As long as everyone is paying to see them they will still get made.

Thinking they fucked up by making the story so huge.

I kinda feel this way as well. I also feel the pushback against superhero movies are subconsciously affecting critics.

People letting reviews dictate their opinions will never not be stupid to me

when Marvel keeps pumping out movies and shows every year, it's obvious that people are gonna get tired of them. specially when most of them look like your generic by the numbers MCU fare and don't stand out from each other...

i cant wait to see Krang fight Scott Langley on the big screen.

I'm still gonna see it because I love Ant-Man and the Kang stuff looks awesome but I'm honestly kinda shocked it's reviewing low

There's definitely some truth to this. Like Avengers 1 was near-universally praised at release and now when it comes up within marvel movie discussion it's like "yeah it's alright or it's pretty good". And most of the rest of Phase 1 movies are usually in the bottom half of people's lists if not lower (in my opinion Thor 1 is all-around not a good movie).

That's not to say anything about the quality of this movie necessarily though. Ant-Man 2 wasn't particularly good. Kind of just forgettable outside of the last 30 seconds. And so I'm not surprised if Ant-Man 3 isn't great either but we'll see.

Maybe so, but eternals was pretty hot garbage, and dr strange 2 left me feeling weirdly unsatisfied.

Then again people hated antman 2 and I thought they were crazy because I love the antman movies and 2 is no exception.

Seems reviewers are just annoyed that it raises the stakes and takes Ant-Man away from the heist movies. It is always a hard task to set up the next big bad, especially someone as nebulous as Kang. The two reviews I read (on RT) both said they had fun. That's all I want.

I doubt it can be worse than Ant-Man 2.

Oh well. I wanted it to be good.

I don't bother with other people's opinions of movies any more. I just form my own opinion from the trailers and then go see it. Works out the vast majority of the time. I really enjoyed Ant-Man 1 and 2, and I'm excited to see what Kang is gonna do in phase 5.

At this point I have to admit that - outside of McGuire and Garfield in No Way Home - I'm really not on board with the whole multiverse stuff. Multiverse of Madness in particular drove home how inconsequential everything feels now - I would've called you a liar if just a few years ago you'd told me I'd respond to Scarlet Witch's death with a resounding *shrug* 'eh, whatever.'

The MCU's also in a weird limbo phase where it's currently lacking a standout leader character to carry my interest through the lesser movies / shows. It's very reminiscent of Phase 1 and early Phase 2, during which I was resoundingly 'meh' on the MCU as a whole, at least until Winter Soldier knocked it out of the park and turned Cap into an excellent tentpole character. But I haven't lost faith; there's still plenty of time for either a new or existing character to step up and claim that mantle.

Yeah I don't think many will disagree. The multiverse, in practice, only really exists to say "oh this character might not be dead completely forever" for the "main" universe. It's a concept that was made to explain away multiple authors' works within the same universe without there being a coherent planning done in advance, but most of the time, there are just a lot of cop outs and getting rid of narratively disruptive consequences

Bummed since I was looking forward to this one. Literally one of the lowest scored marvel movies.

I kind of hope it falls below eternals because i fucking love that movie and it gets a bad rep for no reason

Yeah but it's too hard to avoid spoilers for 2 months. I already skipped Thor 4 and Eternals and Shang Chi. I'll give em this one and go to the theater.

I've never been a fan of the Ant-Man movies. They're usually decent with some comedy, but overall the character doesn't appeal to me. I have seen all the MCU movies/shows and will still watch this one just to keep the continuation going. I never go to the theater to see these movies anymore though. I'll just wait until it's on Disney+. Looking forward to Guardians in May though.
