It kind of makes some sense. A non-trivial amount of regular PS5 inventory is tied up in large-scale scalping operations, making it hard for interested consumers to get one (and therefore start buying games for it and making Sony money). Even leaking a rumour of a PS5 Pro coming that will be priced below what the scalpers want for the base version will result in some of them scrambling to offload their supply, making it more available for consumers.
