Just don't use the word detox in a food context. It's scientifically inaccurate and has harmful connotations to it.

lmao I'm watching this clip of him talking about the apple cider. He says he had a sense of impending doom and didn't sleep for twenty-five days, just laid in terror in his bed for eight hours every night.

Typically you can tell if someone has an unreasonable amount of disdain for someone if they cant answer What are things this person is correct or reasonable about?

Online discourse is very binary. Peterson has shit takes. But he gives (generally) decent advice on male/female dynamics Ive seen.

tl;dr He's just really obviously a grifter.

Right around like when Gamergate was starting and there were plenty of mainstream listicles like "lol this is why all men are garbage #6 will shock you" it was very easy to get popular like he did by appealing to the young (mostly white) men that could feel like society was trying to leave them behind. Peterson's like self-help advice targeted a lot of specifically young male issues and for a lot of people was the only voice actually reaching out to them.

Petersons debate style was also pretty engaging, since it was very much like what someone who doesn't understand debate thinks is a good debate. He looked very good because he would always stay calm (while the people he fight would routinely get emotional and yell, making him "look" right) and even when he would be fighting like a whole group of people he would treat the people trying to stay calm and have a conversation with him fairly. Because of this, Peterson helped basically usher in the wave of "anti-SJW" stuff where a lot of people in a "feminist" position or whatever would crack under the slightest pressure.

Why people don't like him though? Because the main thing about both his "debates" and his lectures are very much him starting from the end point (in this case, some kind of religious conservatism) and working backwards to try and justify it. However, because his main schtick is trying to pretend he's neutral, he tends to say a lot of "nothing" in his explanations. This was a common joke even in pro-peterson circles. Also the thing that might him big, the BillC34 stuff in Canada? He completely lied about pretty much everything he said about it.

One of the big factors was the whole "if you can't clean your room, don't try to change the world" thing, which is just like, the absolute worst advice. And also hypocritical, as we later learned his own room is quite messy.

If you live around Toronto, you might recognize him showing up multiple times on local programs, effectively spouting neckbeard nonsense trying to get attention. He's always kind of just been trying to hit it big to become some kind of pundit.

Note that this is all, from several years ago. He's become pretty deranged basically since he had that whole "I think I'm better than the concept of Western Medicine" phase.

For what its worth the main reason for this topic is because I have a family member who thinks Peterson can do no wrong so I wanted some decent arguments to go back with.

Wanna know what is vicious? When someone who is an influential or political figure targets and scapegoats a group of people which results in actual real world harm towards that group. Its doubly vicious when in your pursuit of targeting that group you engage in slander, lies, and conspiracy. When you label lgbt people as pedophiles and groomers, when you call doctors butchers and murderers, and when you call people asking for affordable Healthcare and equality communists and authoritarians. That is vicious.

The thing that gets me with Jordan Peterson is that if he didn't go into politics or crazy ideas he could have been remembered as the guy who helped lonely, depressed, and suicidal men when nobody else would.
