If Christian think tanks keep spending money to lobby politicians or even Christians themselves who have strong evangelical fundamentalist leaning run for office, it doesn't matter how many indie tubers you tell to unalive for playing a video game.

The negativity kinda surprises me. I don't really watch many vtubers myself, but they're barely any different than the 1000s of other streamers or Youtubers with some random cartoon avatar that has an opinion on everything. They make the same content, but one subset just uses anime chicks.

At the start her voice reminded me of how people fake the Queens accent. I assumed it was a joke.

The one that made me sad was that couple lets play channel where the chat was so mean to them for playing Harry Potter that the girlfriend ran out of the room crying.

And if you look at their channel they're like the most non offensive, bland, cutesy people ever who just make little sweet lets plays together

Well you're not Verdun, but if that's the case, then it's really weird to prop them as "cutesy innocent lets players". They're both professionals. One a professional video editor, the other a professional actress/comedian. The content they produce on YouTube is certainly meant to be cutesy, but it's scripted and curated.

It's their act and their business.

It's a good act, certainly, but trying to pretend that this act is who they are as people in order to defend them is weird.

They're both Internet-present adults. I'm not trying to call them out as bad people, but they received feedback when they announced they were streaming the game. Then they, like all noble gamers, proceeded to make their excuses as to why it's okay for them to do it.

Would have been more honest to just say that they needed to make their content in order to eat.

And I'm not going to say they deserve harassment. I just think this propping them up is pretty dishonest.

I would wager actually upset. There was a lot vitriol, and it wasn't subtle. People were attempting to doxx her, find her family, doxx people she worked with and so on.

Not really much a reason for them to milk it, vtuber communities drop cash like nothing anyway for whatever reason.

4chan has been the internet boogeyman for far longer than the alt right which is basically the "flavor of the month" for the internet, and some time in the future assholes in the internet will be labeled something else. This was one of the big points of bullying. A lot of people even went after people she followed on Twitter and attempted to force people to cut ties with her by just, well, lying.

The entire situation is super scummy honestly.

Purely anecdotal, but I don't know any male friends I know in real life that is actually a big fan of Harry Potter. I only know 2 of them and they're my wife's friends and both of them are trans FtM. I do know many of my female friends that are obsessed with it. Seeing such a huge gap between them, I can assume a lot of the streamers for Hogwarts Legacy are probably females as well, which means it could just probably be coincidence that it's mostly female streamers getting more of the harassment, but the internet in general is just more mean to Females than Males. I mean I should only point to the Fappening or Deep fake pron to see a big clear difference in how both genders get treated.

I'm also under the impression a lot of the harassment was probably coordinated by bad faith actor trolls. Seeing how much of a failure the boycott was, I don't see much organization with it.

I guess it makes more sense than a body pillow. But you can't snuggle the vtuber. Eh it's all strange to me. Is the person's voice augmented? Are people hoping to see the real face and body of the person?

It's usually for fun and/or privacy. Like they enjoy being open and personable with their audience, but not comfortable enough to be on camera.

I have a male friend who streams using a female V-tuber avatar and voice augmented. He gets a lot of money from it. It personally doesn't interest me, but I can see why it would interest others.
