Had an hour Zoom interview last Thursday.

Now, I'm scheduled to go to the place from 1pm-4pm on March 1. I have to interview with the hiring manager and her boss. Then another interview with their entire digital content team. Then a writing/social media test.

And I had to send a writing sample before this Friday.

It's just a lot for a job that pays $55,000.

What is your greatest weakness?

I have been fired from 2 jobs during the training period and both jobs I didn't have to interview for

Jobs where I make it past the interview and training, the interview is still stupid and it's never a job where I couldn't just work for a week and let them decide if they want to hire me

I don't like interviews. Just let people try the job until you find someone that sticks?

When it's that crazy then chances are you're against an internal promotion to that position.

Its not that its not a decent salary, its that its an obnoxiously long interview process for something that isnt a very high salary

I mean basically

Even shitty jobs do that these days. A few years ago I was between jobs and just needed some fast cash because unemployment ran out. Applied for a $16 an hour job and had a phone interview, 3 in person interviews, a 4 hour test, and one more interview with a bunch of weirdos over the course of 3 days. I was like are these mfs for real? Didn't even get it after all that crap.

Now people are making $16 at Subway

I'm guessing they're doing all of that because they have a lot of candidates and they're trying to narrow it down more before deciding. My job only did 2 interviews when they had a lot of good candidates and only 1 position. Otherwise it was just like okay they did well in the interview, let's send the hiring paperwork to hr.

Nah. The woman who is leaving the position is on my interview panel for round 2 next Wednesday. It's a very individual and specific role. No promotions or anything like that.

I'm a high school teacher right now and make almost $47,000. So, it's a bug jump to $55,000 for me. And I live in pretty low cost of living area (even though it sucks), so it's a pretty good salary for this area, definitely above average.

I'm not so sure. They immediately invited me for the on campus portion and it's clear they want to hire asap. Not many people in this area would have the media and writing experience to meet the qualifications. The hiring manager is also the same age as me, and her boss was the one that really wanted her to interview me.

My teaching position interview, a job I didn't even have a license for at the time, was 10 minutes. I was only hired because I was the only male applicant and they wanted a male English teacher for the students.

Besides teaching, I was offered a Junior Technical Writer job in DC, despite not having any experience in technical writing.

Funny... the jobs I'm qualified for, I never get. The jobs I have no experience in? Always get an interview and sometimes an offer.

I already have a shit ton of writing samples because I had a journalism career before teaching. I didn't have to create anything new. I just linked her to one of my published articles.

It's a shit salary. He was already obscenely underpaid as a HS teacher. In a low COL area, for what it sounds like the expectations of the role are, it's not worth it.

No one could even buy a shit house on that salary these days.

Eh. I just bought a relatively new car. 2016 Nissan Sentra in September. And my payments are only $198. That's good enough for me. I live a pretty frugal lifestyle.

I'm just sick of teaching and want to leave. The mental and emotional stress is not worth it, especially in a really conservative area and being a teacher that is gay.

Depends on the area. Im a GS-14 step 3 and live like a king here, but the cost of living is much lower than coastal places. My salary would seem like barely anything to someone in Silicon Valley, but compare the livings conditions and such.

Now I have another Zoom interview for a different job on Tuesday. Ugh. I want a new job, but balancing a job search with also being a teacher is stressful.

Yeah, this is a weird place. CE is a place where $55K a year is "not a lot" for a job, but where we also somehow look down on people that don't understand the struggle of living paycheck to paycheck.

Yeah, twice in the past month, Ive been called in for in-person interviews, after seemingly nailing the initial screenings, only to be met with questions about my experience with things that werent even listed in the job description.

As if the amount of hurdles isnt enough. Nope, gotta waste everyones time because these companies cant decide on their idea of an ideal candidate from the start.

That is way more work than most jobs are worth.

This - when I first entered the workforce in IT ~4 years ago I applied for a shitty $13/hr desktop support position at a mid-size company.

It started with filling out a behavioral questionnaire, and if you passed that you had to go to their campus and take a literal school-style exam with some reading analysis and calculus. THEN if you passed that, you had to immediately interview with some HR rep (typical biggest weakness) bullshit.

THEN a few days later you interview with the direct manager. And THEN if you passed that it was another interview with the god damn department head. Literally by the time I got the worthless offer from them I was already working at another company for more $$ after 1 fucking interview.

Shit is fucking wild for the shit paying jobs for bigger companies.

say someone is paying 200$ for a car, thats 2,400 a year, now we are at $26,400.

Does $500 a month for all utilities sound reasonable? Thats 6k a year. Now were at $32,400 a year.

If someone making 55k only paid 10% in taxes hed be making $49,500.

that only leaves you with 17,100, or $1,425 for food, gas, insurance, and everythiiinnnggggg else a month
