no_u came across as a troll in his communication sometimes, but he actually knew his stuff and you could tell he was also passionate about watches. I don't know him well, but I certainly wouldn't call him fake.

The_Pika, you seem pretty passionate about pushing this narrative about me that I'm a show off. And while I don't have to prove otherwise to be able to look at myself in the mirror, I will talk a bit about myself as it does bother me when these assumptions get thrown at me despite people being completely uninformed about who I am, yet making in depth analyses about who I have to be.

I was born in the US, mom is Swiss, lived here in Zurich 95% of my life. I'm 33 years old, I was 15 when I made this account. Been visiting this site for longer than most of you (early 2000s) and been posting on CE since 2006. 17 years by now!

I wasn't born into money at all. In fact, I come from a middle class (and I don't mean upper middle) family. I would wager many of you were more fortunate than I was, growing up. Oh, and spoiler alert:Living in Switzerland doesn't automatically mean you're rich. Really seems like that has to be said.

I have several passions, as many of you have pointed out I like to show them off. Not all my passions are linked with money. I've become a food / cooking enthusiast since the pandemic. I could make a bowl of pasta before that, no more. Motorcycling is a passion of mine too, something my brother got me into when I turned 18. Worked my ass of over every single vacation, put every single penny towards a bike, and purchased a 125cc Honda at 18.

Video games is another one, why else would I be here. I still adore video games and play them whenever I have time. First daughter was born in 2018, second in 2020. So hard to find time, but I do try to play between 10pm and 1am, which is the only time I have for leisure. 100%ed Elden Ring finished Hollow Knight very recently too (love that game) and playing Hades now.

Watches became a passion of mine since I was in my mid teens and a rich friend of mine got a Navitimer at 16 for Christmas. Typical me: I vowed to own this watch one day because I love the design so much. Fast forward 10 years where my wife and I married, and she surprised me with a brand new Breitling Navitimer. I got deep into the rabbit hole of watches and started learning more and more and more. Got even more fascinated, and started saving money from my salary (which wasn't, and still isn't huge, mind you) and put them towards watches. Yes, a substantial part of my net worth is watches, irrational? Maybe. But I do enjoy it. I bought it way before the hype. Example: My Speedmaster Professional Meteorite dial, bought it for $2900 in 2016. It's worth about 23-24k now. That's more than the Patek I just bought, and I got in for less than 3k. So yeah, 20k is fucking expensive for a watch, even for me, and it took balls to make the purchase.

How do I afford all these watches you ask? Well, it's not because of I have some crazy salary. It's thanks to being financially responsible, putting every single penny towards keeping my costs low. I bought my apartment together with my wife. We down paid about 200k which was about 23% of the place we were buying. My wife and I cleaned out our pension, took every penny from our savings, borrowed from our parents to be able to make the purchase. Again, we put together a nice situation here, but not because we (or our parents) were rich. My wife comes from a lower middle class family, her parents were refugees when they came here, with nothing. We were just responsible and on the same wavelength when it comes to spending habits. We hardly ever eat out, don't go on lavish vacations, and instead indulge in investments that make sense to us. Luckily this apartment purchase helped us keep our costs low. We live in a place now that would cost about $3500 a month, yet we're paying $800 a month mortgage and extra fees. That's a difference of $2700 a month. With our regular salaries, that means I could theoretically buy a watch of this caliber after 7-8 months thanks to one of the best decisions I made in my life (buying our apartment). Again, the luxuries I'm able to indulge in, is mostly thanks to spending habits.

Now, why did I make this topic? There are topics here being made with the title "would you have this girl her sit on your face for 3 hours?" Or "check out all these sexy asses", or clickbaity political horse shit by biased new outlets, or "rate this girl out of 10" or "JK Rowling is a racist transphobe".

All I'm doing is posting something that people here aren't posting about. A bit of variety. A bit of passion sharing. A bit of fresh air. Is that such a problem? I shared my food videos with recipes to show how easy and cheap it is to make restaurant quality food. I posted my Orient Bambino Small Seconds as a watch people here should look at because it's an insane value proposition, I posted a recipe about no-knead bread because of how simple yet delicious it is. I post about video games on other boards, because this board is made for people who want to talk about all the other stuff.

Should I only post the expensive watches every fifth topic I make? No. I'll post about whatever's on my mind. I love a good discussion/debate, and when people disagree with me, I love hearing their angle. More insight is always welcome!

I've recently had articles published on legit platforms. These articles generate thousands of clicks, get shared all over social media, get referenced etc etc. It's a lot more (positive) attention then anything I'd get here. I'm just sharing it here too, because I thought the idea of coming to a VG board (which I love and have been posting on for almost 2 fucking decades) with something fresh, and something no one else posted / talks about wasn't something that would piss off so many people.

I make maybe 4-5 topics a year, and yes, most of the time it's "hey look at this, what do you think?". Or "Check out this recipe I've learned (recipe inside)".

I do post in other people's topics. Not as much as I used to, but I still do that. So when people say "all I do is post about my wealth". Yes I've made topics about cool stuff I own, but I post in other people's topics about all kinds of different things. Financial advice, relationship advice is something I'll enjoy helping with. Video game topics as well of course.

Anyway, it's not my goal to change your opinion about me. It seems like your opinion has already been formed. The point of this wall of text was to shed a bit of light on myself, and to tell people I'm not who you say I am. Best to hear from the person themselves.

PS: I don't have a security detail. I laughed out loud when you thought I had 1 maybe2 people looking out for me. LOL thanks for that man.

I agree! They have some really nice stuff! I hated the integrated bracelet royal oak lookalike when it came out, but it's really been growing on me. I need to check them out in the flesh. Maybe I'll purchase one one day! It's one of the only French brands in the industry, which is cool too!

If you're interested in salaries, I was working the first half of last year at a company making $70k annually. Yep, you heard correctly: Less than a lot of people here. On CE, imagine that. I quit that job mid last year because I'm taking care of our daughters (2 and 4 years old). I want to be around them as much as possible before they leave for kindergarten, so happy to take a pay cut. Luckily I still have my original profession as a martial arts teacher. This was my main job from 2011 till the pandemic hit, where my entire business went belly up. Luckily I was still able to work by buying watches, servicing them through my contacts, selling them, or curating rare watches for people who had money, or buying watches and trying to sell for 10-20% more than I paid. That's another field of expertise I've been able to make some bucks here and there with. Martial arts died during the pandemic (coming back now slowly, thankfully) so the watch stuff actually saved my ass.

I never got a degree beyond a high school diploma. I preferred to train martial arts as much as I could and become fully self employed when I was 21 years old (2011). Me never getting anything beyond a high school diploma was always a subject of concern for people around me (family, extended family, friends etc). But I actually took a gamble, married an amazing person, and was reasonable with money. How is any of this so hard to believe?

You sound like a prick to be fair.

Honestly Ive come to the realization that CE just dislikes rich people in general. Back when Luigi and Tails was a regular poster here he posted a topic about his Aston Martin and CE chewed him to shit and back.

And to a point I get it with the economy the way it is, but the outright disgust for anyone with money here has always kind of surprised me. Most guys I meet IRL get excited about expensive cars, watches, clothes etc. But dudes here have really bought into the eat the rich thing. Too bad. I always liked to share for people who were interested.

do you have any fp watches tc? those are my personal fave and that guy from r/watches with like a million of em is life goals.

That being said, Switzerland is beautiful and it's cool you enjoy watches, but don't pretend that you're not doing this to get the jelly hate >_>

there are always sad sacks that get mad about anything but i doubt he could have expected this level of vitriol. tc isn't pretending to be a mega rich guy, he is just sharing an expensive hobby which he explained he also uses to subsidize his income.

Honestly, no I did not expect this. I posted my first Patek purchase as well. That one cost 10k more than this at retail. 99% of the responses (possibly 100%, I forget) were overwhelmingly positive. The jeans are H&M. $30 iirc. The Aquanaut is so casual, it looks good with everything, even affordable attire. I wouldn't wear a dress watch with these, but the Aquanaut? Why not? It's my watch after all. I want to wear it, not have the watch wear me.

If you want a bracelet, ditto on the White Bitch or the Night Birch. Phenomenal pieces, affordable for what you get too.

Honestly I adore the ethos behind this type of watch, but this one just doesn't look nice to me personally. Case looks to clunky to be a versatile piece I could wear. VG themed watches are awesome, see the Street Fighter Seiko 5 watches. Love them! (I posted about them here too when they were announced!!)

for some reason I dont like seikos.

as for Grand Seikos, I feel they tend to have some really cool and interesting dial designs, such as the snow flake dial or the bamboo dial, but theyre still just seikos. Why pay Omega money for a (grand) seiko? People complain about paying 250$ for a moonswatch since its just a swatch, but at least its a proper Omega collaboration and design and just 250

as for the gaming watches, yeah theyre clunky and square. Theyre for kids!! Id not wear one now, lol, though I would totally have one if they were still being sold, and Id even play with it lol.

Again, don't worry about it.
CE is full of "that watch could have fed the poor" and "that watch could have been a car"
I've done one of those in this thread.

yes. CE is pretty extreme about that.

I understand that watch could have been a (nice) car - you can maybe get a Mercedes c class for 65k.

but yes CE will go into stupid stuff like you could have fed an African village with that instead heck they hate the concept of landlords lol

TC's watch would buy three of my car - 2022 Chevy Trax, that I only bought because my 2002 Ford ZX2 is actively disintegrating.
Ran that fucker out twenty years, and still going, because I'm a stingy ass who doesn't replace things until they end. My house was built in 1952. I was built in 1975 (also actively disintegrating)

whata the lesson? Toyota corollas, Costco clothing, Casio watches and new balance shoes for all or get fire?

it sounds conformist, and dare I say, standardizing, like communist regimes.

why a trax? Theyre so blah. the zx2 was a sporty stylish car.

what would a modern equivalent to the zx2 be?

Id personally rather stick 20,000 on the mortgage than buy a watch, but if that makes you happy then go for it!

Everybody know that a Vacheron Constantin is *the* watch brand to own, not a lowly Patek Phillipe. I mean, they made a watch for Napoleon, after all.

---

Just kidding, though. Congrats on the Patek Phillipe. It'll be an heirloom to pass down to your children.

2022 is the last model year, and it was a cheap AWD/ABS/Stabilitrack for $24K that I can fit shit in.

I'll just fucking give it to you right now, but Missouri says I can't sell it for less than $200. The power steering was replaced four years ago, front brakes ten years ago, timing belt last year, front suspension in September, and it's on its fifth alternator.

I also have two Pontiac Fieros rotting in my dad's barn if you want one.

If you have a good case to triple your investment and intend to sell it then good for you.

If you just spent over 20k on a watch because you like the rubber straps and stuff..I dunno man. Enthusiasm is great and all but I don't get it.

People are struggling financially around the globe, with the cost of living ever rising. You pipe up about buying a 65 grand watch like its nothing, of course people will react negatively.

You don't have an ounce of tact in you.

Oh and when I bought the last one and got overwhelmingly positive responses, all positive for what I remember. It was at the height of the pandemic. People were even more depressed and fucked compared to now. Lockdowns, no jobs, no salary, rent had already been at a high.

Don't pretend like I could have foreseen this context in today's climate. If people are sensitive about wealth, ignore the topic, move on. But the responses here were something else.

You genuinely believe I did something wrong and insensitive to the poor CEman. If anything, your reaction is an insult to people here. I'd wager most people have the ability to not click the topic. You though, you really had to try to shame me. That's what I meant with pathetic behaviour.

With watches for some people brand perception is just super important, and I get that. But with me I also just enjoy really high quality stuff. The brand perception has nothing to do with the actual physical watch itself.

Rolex has insane brand equity, but a Grand Seiko is just a league above them quality-wise. I own Rolex, I like them, but they're mass produced, well finished, robust watches. A Grand Seiko, case, dial, movement (which they display, unlike Rolex), are finished to a degree that you could easily compare to brands like Moser (watches starting at 20k), Breguet, etc. They are phenomenal watches, and if brand perception doesn't bother you, then with a Grand Seiko you're getting an insane watch, well above Rolex, Omega, Breitling, IWC in terms of quality.
