Test 3: JRPGs (Complete Fail)

ChatGPT performs good-to-meh with clear-cut technical questions, but I wanted to dive deeper into just what it could do. That's why I dug into my own knowledge of JRPG games and got a bit playful with first question on the subject: "Tell me how to get Knights of the Round in Final Fantasy VII, in iambic pentameter." Knights of the Round is one of the most powerful abilities in the game, and finding it is somewhat difficult and obscure, but the process is easily found on message boards and sites like GameFAQs(Opens in a new window). ChatGPT produced a set of six flowery, rhyming lines that gave me vague instructions on how to get the Knights of the Round materia. Except they were completely wrong (and not really in iambic pentameter).

If you aren't familiar with Final Fantasy VII, you actually get Knights of the Round by breeding a gold chocobo and finding it in a cave on a mountainous island. That's it. You can also get the Master Summon materia by beating Emerald Weapon and trading in the item you get to an NPC in Kalm village, but you don't go to Gongaga (you get Titan there) or Fort Condor (you get Phoenix there). I thought the iambic pentameter stipulation might have thrown it off, so I asked ChatGPT more directly.

It starts off promising: Obtain a gold chocobo. Then it completely loses the plot and the game. The Island Closest to Heaven and Island Closest to Hell are optional areas on the overworld of Final Fantasy VIII that have the game's strongest monsters, but no items. I was reminded of this just a week or two ago watching my friend AbrahmEden(Opens in a new window) stream this very game. Those locations are not in Final Fantasy VII, and there are no chests there. Also, I may be forgetting them, but I'm pretty sure there are no items called 13th Round or 14th Round in any Final Fantasy game.

I think people are just blatantly begging and screaming for this to fail or not live up to expectations.

This technology is literally fucking garbage compared to how it will be by the end of anyone here's life. It is the absolute worst it will ever be, and will never do anything but get better.

This is also not even the best version of this being used in the example iirc. Bings new one that's attached to the internet is already exponentially better. The fact that it can't always give you information that most people who've played the game wouldn't remember past golden Chocobo in poem form is a ridiculous method for trying to make it look bad in any sense.

Again this is literally the worst it'll EVER be. This is like the people saying computers were garbage back when you were running a super high end 1 GB computer on windows 95.

AI is a black box to even its developers lol. I'm not too worried about it.
