How does it feel to play? I always liked the gamecube controller, but I found the Wii Trilogy controlled nicely as well

Playing with the Gamecube control style. For the most part it feels like how I remember it but I swear they switched the ball and missile buttons. Also I can't figure out how to open the menu. Map is now the Start/Pause button instead of Z.

I want to know if the new controls are much better, the one thing that's kept me from replaying the old versions were the controls, even 10 years ago they were awful and clunky compared to any competent shooter.

They're a substantial improvement. it's nothing amazing, it's just normal dual stick fps controls. feels like playing a console fps

Significantly better. Some parts that were more difficult for me 20 years ago were kind of easy just having good, normal controls lol I wiped the floor with the Omega Pirate without breaking much of a sweat.

I recently played DNF... and weirdly the things that the original devs had were pretty good ideas, and the entire thing was actually BROUGHT DOWN by Gearbox touching it

I fully expect that Prime Remastered was a test run for whatever engine Retro has put together to use for Prime 4, both for the sake of getting some public feedback to it (which seems to have been overwhelmingly positive) and to get something out the door while they put 4 together. Recently, Nintendo's generally tended toward not announcing games until relatively close to their release dates (such as Xenoblade 3 being announced last February for a September release, which later got moved up to the end of July), so I could believe that they're just holding off on announcing 4 until it's mostly ready.

Nah. It's not the same team that did Dread, and I question how much time was really lost by Retro doing MP Remastered, if they did it all. Remember, Nintendo giving Prime 4 to Retro basically caused the game to go back to Square 1 (it should have been retro all.along)

I could totally see this actually. The Switch really is in its twilight years. It's entering its 7th year, the hardware is really starting to show its age, I can totally see a successor being officially announced this year. Now if it would launch this year or next year who knows.

Switch has been showing its age since pretty much release day. Granted there are some games that look great, but it is seriously time for an upgrade. I don't even care if they delay Prime 4 again so it can be on the next Nintendo console. If Prime remastered can look this good on the Switch I want something even better for a fully fledged new entry in the Prime series.

I kind of doubt that, actually. I'm guessing Retro developed their own engine to get Remastered looking as good as it does on the Switch, and that kind of optimization work likely can't simply be copied over onto a new system. I highly doubt they'd put in such effort just for a one-off remake, so odds are they made the engine for 4 and will therefore be releasing it on the Switch.

"MP Remastered looks so goegeous, but the Switch is also showing it's age." Wut?

Considering there hasn't even been news of a Switch successor in development (although given the time it takes to develop new consoles, it certainly is), I could see maybe *news* of a successor in the works, maybe even details, around E3 this year. But even that may not happen. I made a topic a couple of weeks back here about how the Switch is (now) 6 years old, which is typically the end of any console's life cycle, but a ton of stuff is being developed for it still. It's close to becoming the best selling console of all time, so Nintendo probably felt self on letting it live longer. Tears of the Kingdom coming out with no new console announcement seems to support that.

It also just hit Year 6, so it's not going into it's 7th year. It came out March 2017.

Technically, those are the same thing. It has existed for 6 years, meaning it is now in its 7th year of existence. It's a relatively unusual way of describing something's age (at least in American culture) that's clearly meant to make it seem as old as possible, but it's not actually inaccurate.

The GCN was the best of it's class, or at least, was graphically on par with the Xbox. They basically got away from that ideology after the GCN.

It's a bit misleading, in this case. Technically not incorrect, but it's Day 3 into what will be leading to it's 7th full year, but one wouldn't nomrally describe it that way without an inherently negative slant.
