It seems that way unless you either get really lucky with career connections, you hit it big as an entrepreneur, or you are from a rich/well off family.

Majority of people just seem to make enough to pay the bills.

Because the topic was about minimum wage. You don't need to have connections or come from a wealthy family to make more than minimum wage.

You just said the same thing three times. Career connections that give you big money come from being born rich, hitting it big as an entrepreneur has been statistically shown to only really happen when you are born rich, and being born rich is being born rich.

Money that's enough to make your life comfortable and cushy

Most people aren't on that level as far as I know. It's way more common to see people that are paycheck to paycheck and can only afford to pay their bills and expenses and not be able to make vacation trips.

Ask janitors, bus drivers, or secretaries and they'll know exactly what I'm talking about

D then. What you're describing is basically middle class. You don't need connections to reach middle class.

But the amount of people reaching that comfort level has been decreasing over the last few decades. So it won't be the majority for much longer. And that's a problem.

Kinda deny. There are definitely millions of Americans making good money for the areas where they live. Mostly after grinding away at a career for 5-10 years before getting to that point. And usually jumping around a couple companies. Its not exactly rocket science playing the career game.

Then it generally just boils down to your career path and obvious relative financial ceilings.

I guess the main thing I would say about todays job climate is that you do have to seriously plan your career path out nowadays. Due to dwindling viable long term options. And although jumping around companies is common, you as a worker still have to be overall somewhat patient when climbing a career ladder.

You have to take risk to make it big and that risk has to be well calculated, researched, and designed. No one's going to spoon feed you, you have to go out and figure it out.
