I am genuinely curious as to how Bernie Sanders Student loan plan would worked. He wanted to eliminate all student loan debt entirely.

Woa the batterys in my keyboard just died. This is like the 2nd time that has happened in 4 years of using it.

I literally posted todays tuition rates for the schools i went to.

The schools I went to would costs around $60k for all 4 years.

ONE Semester at Syracuse is $58k.

There is zero reason for someone to go into $200k+ into debt when there are options that are literal fractions of the cost and gets you the same degree.

$60k in debt would be $500 a month over a 10 year period and that's not factoring in crazy interest rates. Even in your save money scenario, that's still a lot of debt.

If there's no profit to be made then why would they or anyone for that matter agree to this? Actually, due to inflation if anything they're be losing money.

Honestly if they want they're tuition paid for that bad then join the army.
They should do what they did then the power companies to move out to middle America and foot the Bill for setting up the infrastructure, limit the profit they can make. Think the cap is 10 percent. In this case make it ten percent plus inflation. So if you take out 100k, your full repayment will be 110k plus inflation for every year it takes to pay it back which until recently is only 2 percent per year on average.

Thats assuming you go into Freshman year with ZERO money up front, get zero outside help, and are putting no money towards schools while youre attending.

Which, in my opinion, is a bit irresponsible.

Im not saying the current system is good, and should be completely overhauled. At all. I would 100% support free college for anyone that qualifies for it.

But in the current system. College on a budget is wholly obtainable.

BTW, I also worked 30+ hours a week during all 4 of my undergraduate years and knew there was zero chance Id ever get out of college debt free if I didnt go to two year of community college followed by two years at the local State school. So I opted for 2 years of community college and two years of state college. Because it was all I could afford.

Once you graduate, an accounting degree is the same no matter how much you paid for it.

College should be more heavily subsidized. The high cost of attending has effects on standards both at the classroom level and at the administrative level that favor grade inflation.

The right want to keep the masses dumb, poor, and desperate so they'll be easier to manipulate and control. If they continue to get their way higher education will only be available to the rich. Then you got their followers who overlook all the bailouts to the rich and concentrate their hatred on non-rich people getting any sort of benefits.

It's propaganda mixed with the crabs in a bucket mentality. It's like how they get more angry at someone using food stamps to buy a steak or candy because "muh tax money!" while not even caring about the rich stealing tax payer money and finding ways to not pay taxes one bit and continuing to elect the party that makes all that worse.

I guess I had the luxury of still living at home while going to school. And in the late 90s early 2000s, I didnt have many expenses like a cell phone, Netflix account, or a lot of other things kids in their late teens have now

I was on the way to pick up some food today, and I was sifting through some AM radio stations. One popped up with a guy literally saying that loan forgiveness is some scheme by the left to get people into college so they can be indoctrinated

That's the actual issue they have with it, they just cover it up with endless whining about how unfair it is.

That wasn't the question I asked.

I asked if you felt "poor people only being to afford college through risk of injury or death" was a way you felt our society should operate.

I remember you said 14 year olds should be able to drop out/withdraw from school - this is the same type of "solution" that disproportionately affects those already without means.

College tuition costs need to be addressed ASAP. They are far too inflated, probably because schools took advantage of the fact that getting loans were so easy.

Because higher education is the only reliable route to upward social mobility, and making that route prohibitively expensive so to either block it from the poor or make it disproportionately hard to work only serves to exacerbate class inequality in the US. This is one small step towards righting these wrongs.

Networking is actually more reliable than higher education. The only real point of college these days is for internships and getting to know people.

I don't know how true that is.

What I do know is that there are A LOT of jobs out there where a requirement is simple to have that 4 year degree. Doesn't even matter what your major was. Especially a lot of sales and QA jobs. The group of QA reps that my wife works with all have degrees, and they're all had different majors.
