That was brand new. They also tried scratching at my couch so I bought a couch cover.

On top of that these things are clawing at my leg and crawling all over me whenever I sit or lie down for more than a few minutes.

So it turns out I don't like cats.

I love the declawing topics where people just come in and state matter of factly how you just need to do this or that to keep furniture safe from a cat.

Cats do what they want to do. Maybe that worked for your cat, but they're all different

If you want an aloof cat that doesn't care about human company and only seems to destroy things at their whim, you treat them like that's what they are.

If you interact with them, play with them, provide them an environment where they have toys of their own, you'll find that suddenly your cats aren't "acting like cats anymore".

Funny how that works. So many people seem to instinctively understand that dogs need interaction, play, structure, training...but then are somehow baffled to learn that cats need all those same things.
