I ALMOST caught myself getting out of the RE4 mindset and just pumping all my money into upgrades for the starting junk because "I'm sure I'll get enough to upgrade everything".

I did dump into the combat knife durability though.

Loving the shit out of this so far.

i don't like durability systems generally, but i think what makes this different is you can never waste durability - any time you use the knife to finish an enemy off will generally be good value compared to the ammo you'd otherwise have to spend. less good value if you get hit and have to fend off an enemy but that's your own fault and still saves a healing item too. it's different than just random swords or whatever breaking every time you smack generic respawning enemies or whatever.

i'm pretty bad at action games but the game told me to start on hardcore so i did. i play incredibly slowly, i reload my autosave over and over because i die or get hit dozens of times in each room, until i finally eventually master the room and can do it without getting hit or wasting ammo. probably not how you're supposed to do it but i have a great time this way!

Maybe there's a setting somewhere, but it seems incredibly strange to me that there's no popup or alert of any kind when you complete a challenge.

Little thing I loved from last night, I blew this dude's arm off and the plaga started wriggling out the hole. Details are great.

Yeah, I'm spending a lot of time in the shooting range trying to get perfect scores. The last skull on 1-A is driving me nuts.

Got to the first merchant, assume the shooting range comes later. What happens if the main knife breaks, does it just take up space while broken?

Yeah it does, but I'm sure you could store it.

playing this made me realize that I think I'm just done with third person shooter adventure games

I dunno. maybe I'm just not in the mood for it.

Played a couple hours, game rules so far.

What really sticks out to me the most so far is the level design. These "levels" are just so much fun to move around and fight in, and strike the perfect balance of familiarity and difference to me.

I agree. I know that it's still RE4, but it feels so different. Very refreshing. It also still gives me a reason to go back to the original still.

I feel like there's a number of changes that were done just to fuck with people who are going off their memories of the original, and I'm loving it.

Yep, I noticed when I had made a dynamite blow up in a lady's hand, I went up to the body and it was completely split in half, and the top half has little tentacles wriggling out of the model, still active. And this was quite a bit after I had killed them. Also when I perfect parried a dude who tried to punch me Leon just straight up cut his hand off.

I was a talking to a friend last night and said "it's uncomfortable because it's familiar and yet completely new."

They've really put work into making this an experience for everyone playing it

It took me 5 minutes to get the Pearl Necklace because I kept trying to figure out how to cover the dirty well.

I've only just got to the first merchant minigame but i've been caught off guard 3 times so far. The tower falling and the wolves attacking you in the second village visit, the chainsaw guy coming at me outside the house before going in and the dog showing up as you exit said house.

Lol that mine thing was my second pull. I put the mine l thrower into storage immediately and have never used it.

I did use 2 gold coins though.

Fucking blew my mind reading that note that you get almost all your money back if you sell an upgraded weapon.

Actually putting work into whatever you want without worrying about it completely changes the dynamic there.

When I reached the lake and saw that they had massively expanded it to not only let you sail directly to the merchant's pier but also back to the north shore from chapter 1 and added multiple new shores to land on, my mind was blown. Crazy changes! Really loved the return up to the north area though, it's so different at night.

Cant believe you get three different handguns so quickly

I got a JJ one, which is great because it let me know that JJ is still in the game

I've read the gacha pulls are all predetermined when you start a new game. So if you use 2xS and 1xG you'll always get the same order of items even if you reload. Same for every other combo.

I've pretty much got the best score on all 3 of the opening games and never received any more medals.

They removed the gun getting ammo when you upgrade its ammo capacity.

So, it's definitely true that if you upgrade a weapon and later sell it, you get the upgrade money back?

It says in the game you get most of your money back. Probably 80-90% of the cash is my guess.

There's a reward for every 1000 points beyond the top score medal you get. You should see 1 star if you got 1000 over and 2 stars if you got 2000 over

Something I thought was very sneaky on the third shooting range challenge is that one of the skulls is hidden behind a barrel, so you have to shoot the barrel twice to reveal it.
