there are too many gaps in history for history to be ancient. all the stuff from ancient history is long gone and we can only speculate. we only know stuff from a few centuries ago, but actual ancient history is a mystery.

Something like 99% of ancient written works are lost, what remains is the text monks copied over and over as well as some papyrus surviving disengration over the centuries and being recycled for new works. Still there's material culture, inscriptions and other things that can help shape how the Ancients lived along with what written sources survived.

As for me there's a lot of wonder to the ancient world, and in this day and age it's far easier to engage with academic level works thanks to AskHistorians as well as twitters and blogs ran by academics.

Think I wasted a lot of time with that stuff, I used to like it but that was in the past, in hindsight I should been looking to the future

I do this as well. My goal of reading ancient history isn't to master it, but just to get a basic outline of key events, figures, etc and put them all in perspective.

Im glad some of it has survived. Imagine not being able read about a wife farting on her husbands lap.

The more I read about this stuff the more I realize religion was literally just a tool for a certain person or group of persons to justify their power or rights or whatever. Cuz you can't really argue against it. It's all circular logic.
