I've never actually used the razor sword, I always just give it back to them with the gold dust

I think I always skipped the razor sword. By the time it was ready, I always had the gold dust. When I was younger, I think I thought the razor sword was cooler But they both have their own cool points

I may have used it like once or twice, but the whole limited use thing always made me so petrified that I would break it and have to start over again that I never wanted to put it to any real use.

And then BotW was nothing but breakable weapons, which sent my consumable hoarding tendencies into overdrive.

BotW did that to a lot of people. People ended up finding ways to hoard desired weapons before going into things, and replenishing after, or using alternative means to kill enemies without weapons that break after sneezing. I get wanting players to use or try other weapons lying around, but the durability was overdone to an excruciating degree.

Heck, some players went a step further and turned Lynels into weapon farms by using half the weapons or less that they get from said Lynels... and then made countless videos of themselves dabbing on those Lynels.

I found the durability thing worked well for the early game, when it contributed to the whole "starting from nothing and trying to survive" vibe and using runes and environmental damage to conserve durability was a viable option. Once weapons became plentiful enough to not really have to conserve any but the rarest and enemy health scaled faster than rune damage and other non-weapon options, though, it just became a chore.

About as much as keeping track of the blood moon, and either using a shrine entrance to postpone it one night or using a well-timed warp to skip another moon cycle entirely (without enemy respawns). Sometimes you have to ask if it's worth it at that point.

The Razor Sword shouldn't have been degradable. I'd argue that it functionally serves absolutely no purpose, since you waste $100 and a full day producing it, only to lose it next time you go back to the first day or after you use it 100 times.

The strangest thing about it is how it was extensively used in the artwork for Majora's Mask.

Yeah. I feel like something should have been changed about it. Like if it didnt take a full day and lasted longer, or something. Not downgrading would also be ok, but then I think it should take a little longer, and maybe cost more But, eh

I can kind of understand wanting to have one upgrade that's temporary and doesn't last past the end of the cycle, then another that's permanent and does, but 100 hits is just so few that it renders the razor sword pretty much useless.

It does seem low. I wonder if they actually got that number from somewhere specific
