Sure it's got its flaws (it Is Bethesda after all) but man it's just so fun.

I keep planning to do 1 thing, getting sidetracked and then 2 hours of fun later I'm on the other side of the map and still haven't done the thing i set out to do

I've had lots of fun with it too even if it's not as good as NV. I can understand not liking it as much, but the venom it gets is a bit much. I had lots of fun just building settlements with different themes and such. Made an old west town on the beach, big "cities" in Sanctuary and the drive in theater, a big island base on Spectacle Island and tons more over the years.

I think it gets a lot of venom because getting called to settlements over and over gets old quick. Also the writing, dialogue, and plot holes are comically bad.

Idk if I'd call it a game play loop but it definitely feels satisfying doing things in the game.

There's plenty of non-radiant quests to pursue and complete.

Theyre also generally optional and easy to avoid.

Anyone who's into settlement building should try out Medieval Dynasty. It's like someone took the settlement building from F4, made everything work the way it's supposed to, multiplied the building cap by like 100, and made it the entire game. I have a 70 person settlement right now and still room to grow.

Much has been said about Far Harbor being one of Bethesda's best DLCs since Shivering Isles, and while that's not exactly stellar praise in and of itself, I can't say I disagree.

Automatron is short and the plot is iffy, but it does have a level of customization in the robot creation that I honestly never would have expected in a Bethesda game.

My expectations going into Nuka World were very low, so I was pleasantly surprised with all the effort and little nods they put in to make it a genuine parody of Disney World, and not just some generic theme park. The story's dogshit though; unless you're one of those gamers who enjoys being evil just for the sake of it, there's no reason not to just wipe out the raider gangs at first opportunity and explore the park at your leisure.

I wouldn't exactly refute the notion of FO4's DLC being weak, but overall I'd rank it higher than Skyrim's and considerably higher than FO3's.

My favorite DLC was Nuka World for the setting alone. They did a good job with it and exploring the park was so much fun. The story was bleh and only works if you're a raider character, but it is fun when you are one. They still could have done more with liberating the park. I wanted to go in there with a big Minutemen squad and free everyone.

An issue I have with it, which is a problem with Bethesda Fallout's raiders in general, is that they're all generic drug fueled psychopaths who have human remains everywhere. 2 of the 3 gangs in NW were that with one just being more colorful. There was a more traditional like gang, but they're still kinda eh.

Far Harbor was good, but it reminded me too much of Point Lookout from 3, which sort of knocked off a few points for me.

This is why I "ehhhhhhhhhhhh"ed at that guy who pissed all over the DLCs

Sure the Mechanist and Vault-Tec DLC is meh

But Far Harbour is pretty good

Nuka-World is inventive wtith its ideas/areas and also allows players to be evil. One of the big fan complaints about Fallout 4 is that it's hard to be a bad guy. All the main quests are good by default, all but 1.5 of the companions are good people and people who reveled in siding with the Leigon, selling slaves to Paradise Falls, blowing up Megaton, being slavers in FO2 etc, all were pissed

And i really can't fault Bethesda for listening to feedback and trying to give people something they like.

I play as a good guy so it means nothing to me but getting to be a raider and fucking over the Minute Men was something a solid core of the fanbase wanted.

Southernfatman posted...

Actually this is a pet peeve of mine. That EVERY raider camp had mannequin dioramas and heads on sticks and impaled corpses.

That stuff is fine but when literally every raider group in the commonwealth including the Gunners who are meant to be organized and sane mercs, all seem to spend all their free time making these elaborate art projects in every encampment, it just gets silly. It's not even scary or intimidating because every fucker does it and in canon seems to have to put tons of effort and time into doing so.

I know Bethesda are worried that Joe Casual will miss it but it would be more effective if only one raider group did that.

Ironically The Triggermen don't and they stick out simply because they don't do it... And they only appear in 2 locations for pre-set quests

Honestly if you just like messing around in a fallout world, you should give Fallout 76 a try. They've improved on it a ton since it's horrific launch. Lots of NPCs around the map now, plenty of questlines and you can level up as much as you want (max level is 32,767 but you can max out your build long before that).

It's a mixed bag.

There's an alien one which is a fun concept but falls down a bit since it's nearly the entire DLC is just dull gray corridors
One where you go to Pittsburgh and everything sucks because it's Pittsburgh
And one where there's a new map and it's fine but it's just kinda.... more of Fallout 3

Which isn't a bad thing I guess It just feels like they missed the chance to do new stuff. Nuka World and far Farbour where at least new ideas

Same in New Vegas. Except Honest Hearts, every DLC tried soemthing different.

Broken Steel was almost mandatory for fixing the ending and allowing you to keep playing post game. I thought it was awesome, same with The Pitt and Point Lookout. Anchorage was stupid, trying to lean into shooting in a game that...wasn't the best at it. And Zeta was meh.

I thought the FO3 DLC was quite solid tbqh.

I think i like games others hate cause I can identify unimportant stuff and never think about it again. If it's something that pops up on screen I just look at it for a second and immediately forget about it.

The settlement never felt like something I had to do in the 400+ hours I played Fallout 4. I just did it when I felt like it. A lot of games are only as much of a chore as you make them.

But tbf, cluttered HUD annoys me now. So, it's not that I can ignore absolutely everything I don't care for. It's hit or miss

I really struggle to replay it now. It feels like I'm doing the exact same stuff on each playthrough, and the voice acting doesn't help. That's the biggest detriment I think to the voiced player character. Every character feels the same. I suppose they are really. You're playing more of a defined character than a blank slate. Which I think is alright on a more linear narrative focussed game like Mass Effect or even the post-EA Dragon Age games, but on a massive open world thing with crafting and stuff, I find it gets really old.
