I'm assuming at least Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborne, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Slayer. Maybe Megadeth, Pantera, Korn, and Slipknot too.

All of those, plus Gwar, Halestorm, Black Label Society, and Arch Enemy. Then there's bands like Nightwish and Lacuna Coil (if you're counting subgenres). I could probably think of more if I had time, but it's a genre of music where I'm more likely to recognize when other people name bands than I am able to name the bands myself off the top of my head.

If we count hair/glam metal, the list goes up substantially... but I suspect you don't want to count that.

Same goes for Nu Metal. You did mention Korn, but I feel like you probably don't want to talk about bands like Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit.

You can add any subgenre, but I wouldn't really consider Nu Metal a genre, it's more of a movement that can be metal (like Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne) or rock/alternative (like Linkin Park, Deftones)
