This is an example of "female privilege" within today's US legal system. The corrupt biased government gets approx 66 cents per dollar in child support payments and just wants it's hefty cut of the potential money regardless of the wait, which they will keep the victim on the hook for. The system actively discourages "50/50" custody (even when both parents want it) because the system gets no cut then. The US government is willing to force a groomed 13 year old statutory rape victim to pay child support to a pedophile who groomed him because it wants that bag. Dead serious. And yes, the way the current laws are enforced in these cases results in biased outcomes for female sex offenders. A sex offender is going to be awarded custody of a child and likely child support heavily due to the fact she is a woman petitioning. When it comes to "what's best for the child", the court system still functions with a default that the biological mother is entitled to custody often regardless to her mental and criminal state. What's actually best for the child in this case is the victim's family gets custody and the sex offender is denied any interaction with children, including her own. Plenty of feminists claim to be against these outcomes, but plenty of present day feminists in the US also argue in support of maintaining this status quo for the sake of "empowering" a growing population of single mothers. Plenty of feminists protest AGAINST petitions and groups trying to organize to get these laws changed (even when women are at the forefront of said group). And yes, they ARE bonafide feminists.
