yep he laughed until he saw jada was pissed, then he decided it to overcompensate by showing the world how weak minded he was in that moment.

i generally like will smith and he is a good actor but that was a really bad look for him and ended up drawing way more attention to the root cause, his wife forcing him into an open marriage despite him not wanting any part of it.

Yeah it does seem on brand, he was whining about his wife that he cheated on last time, and during the 90s he was whining about dating in general.

I was hoping for a funnier bit referencing the slap. I think it would have been funnier if it was a short quick unexpected joke, showing that he doesn't care about it while simultaneously insulting Will, but instead he just kept crying and saying "bitch" "bitch" it reminded me of when someone gets beat up in movies and they lay on the floor clutching their stomach saying "fuck you you asshole" in weepy pained tone.

Rock was out there making clearly racist jokes about Draymond Green, only to end his show by saying his mother told him to never fight in front of white people. But he can make racist jokes in front of them. And let them use the N word.

Personally if what's been said is true (that Jada rejected Chris Rock almost 30 years ago and he never let it go) then Rock is a disgusting PoS and had it coming.

And to be honest, it not being a joke is kind of worse. Although I understand he wouldn't want to perpetuate the "angry black man" stereotype.

I don't have a horse in this race. I personally think Rock is a sad pathetic washed up comedian who ran out of material before this.

It was his answer to the question "Why didn't you hit him back?"

And his response was he has parents that taught him how to act in public and not to perpetuate stereotypes. And he added that they taught him "don't fight in front of white people" because back when he was a child, PoC were still seen as lower class, and that kind of behavior would just confirm it.

It's just crazy to me that just a few months ago, because of the Chappelle/Trans stuff, the rallying cry was that only comics from marginalized groups where "allowed" to insult their own. And now the Rock standup happens, and even that's not allowed anymore.

Rock's humor has always had problems, and it's been stale for years.

You're allowed to like his shit, but that doesn't mean the voices saying "Hey. This isn't okay." aren't valid.
When the majority of discussion I've seen (and been part of) has included PoC talking about this, I'm going to believe them.

And just because older generations didn't see a problem doesn't mean they weren't there.

But then what about the predominately black crowd that, through their reactions, were clerly saying "Hey. This is okay"?

I feel the issue is people making the blanket statement of "This is ok" or "This is not ok" are both wrong. The statement should be "I understand how someone can think this is not okay". Because there is no flat out right/wrong when it comes to something like this.
