Nuking Racoon City.

We see in RE2 there are zombies outside the city limits.
In RE1 there's zombie dogs and birds outside in the wild.
In RE3 and RE2, birds, rats, insects are all infected.

Feels like humanity is pretty fucked.

They did a whole mission about this in MGSV where you had to kill everyone you loved before the birds got infected since the infected birds would fly off and infect the world.

And we saw with Covid how huge gaggles of the population would ignore all any all basic advice on how to do with a pandemic that is killing everyone.

I don't think the RE world would have made it to the year 2001 in real life.

it's been a while, but wasn't nuking Raccoon City more about destroying any trace of Umbrella's involvement than anything, and killing a bunch of monsters was a bonus.

I suppose so

But things seemed alright in the States between RE2 and RE6. Which is what? Like a decade?

What happened to all those worms, birds, rats, and zombies that weren't caught in the blast?

I think crows are the only real concern. The t-virus was only an outbreak because it made it into the water supply, rogue infected slowly biting people isn't going to create another one. Particularly because they aren't actually undead, anyone properly killed by a zombie or a dog isn't going to get back up.

I believe the cordoned off area was also more than just the city, Leon and Claire weren't immediately hit with a quarantine barrier when they left in RE2.

Both Leon and Claire drove into Racoon City (finding Zombies outside) before anything was cordoned off

We even see the zombie truck driver drive into the city

And there are zombies outside the mansion grounds who survived RE1 as well.

The T-Virus is still out there. Slowly making it's way towards Ohio

Blowing up Wuhan would not have stopped covid

Also even Umbrella knew how fucked up the G Virus is. That strain was uncontrollable and unsellable. Which is what Umbrella wanted. After that it was cover their ass time. But even that didnt work out in the end.

Yeah, I know. That's why I said rogue zombies and stuff wouldn't be an issue. Zombies aren't an infection threat on their own. This is admittedly headcanon, but the only thing that really makes sense if if the CDC figured out the water supply was contaminated and set up the quarantine zone to include anywhere that shared that supply. I think it's somewhat implied that Raccoon is a somewhat isolated city too.

But we're examining things that aren't really going to make sense regardless, Capcom doesn't think this hard about the RE story.

Forest, Marvin etc.

My point isn't that zombies can't infect people, it's that that isn't a very good transmission method. The only people/animals that will become infected are those who are bitten and survive. You'd never get a Raccoon City level outbreak with that. So even if there were a hundred infected of various species outside the city, it wouldn't be a major threat.

The only exception is, as you say, crows who would completely ignore any kind of quarantine. Maybe include rats in that as well, but I don't know how far they're going to migrate in a week. Usually insects would be a worry, but the t-virus makes them grow 1000x their size, so they'd be easy to contain.

Humanity was fucked since jumpstreet, regardless of the T Virus, etc.. The writers of RE try to give players hope in occasional short term victories in these games against the BOWs and bioterrorists but eventually the war against bioterrorism will eventually be lost because it is way too easy to spread that shit and infect people compared to how hard it is to find out about it, let alone cleanse the infected.

The nuking of RC was a knee jerk short term solution to show the country that the government is taking serious action against bioterrorism to try and save the midwest and the rest of the US. In reality it would have horrified the entire country and people would be revolting against the government and it would fall from within. But you know how they have to milk media storylines.

This I do agree with. The world would realistically have ended as soon as any tinpot terrorist cell could get access to a mutagenic bioweapon.

The president did resign in disgrace apparently.

They wouldn't even kill one robot, there's no way they'd use a nuke.

I mean to be fair, this is the plot of pretty much every RE game since Umbrella folded.

Different Terrorist groups take it in turns to do an outbreak somewhere. Then RE protaganists come in and slap their shit.
