Well, you won't have much of a library to start with, but that's not really different to any other case of getting a new system that isn't BC with your existing ones.

Beyond that, I don't see why there would be any issue. It's not really a PC in the way most people would think of one; think of it as a portable console that uses the same library as a PC would. (Yes, it has PC hardware and you can install a normal PC OS like Windows on it; but out of the box, as most people would use it, it's better thought of as a console.)

I've been playing stuff on my steam deck more than my PC these days, very convenient to have the dock hooked up to a TV and play like that and also have it portable

so basically using it like a PC version of a switch

I think I'll just wait for the Switch 2. I don't really game on the go like that, and there's no game I love that much I'd buy twice unless deeply discounted. I'm good with my PS5 for now.

Same. I dont have a computer that can run modern games and I dont have any consoles other than the Steam Deck and Switch, so its the only way that I can play certain games.

It doesn't have to be on the go. I use my Steam Deck the most on the couch while also watching YouTube videos or Netflix. That plus the Switch are great multi tasking systems.

Yeah, this. I have an Ayaneo 2 (same sort of thing as Steam Deck, but more suited to also using as a normal PC when docked), and I've never taken it on-the-go with me. I just use the portable aspect to sit on the couch and game without hogging the TV (and the power usage that goes with it, which is a somewhat important consideration since I'm on solar); when I want to use it as a PC, I pop it in the dock which is connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse (and of course, charger). I really like just having the one device rather than having to move between two.

Overall yeah. It's a fantastic way to play older games especially. 360/PS3 era is a big missing gap for PS5 and Switch.

i can't justify spending $500 + for "couch portability" right now.

I'd pay that much for a Switch 2 if it was on par graphically with the Steam Deck for the first party stuff though.

You can definitely use it on-the-go too. Might wanna pack a power bank, though.

If you aren't really interested in gaming on-the-go, and don't see any value in the "couch portability" aspect, then a Steam Deck probably isn't for you, and you'd be better off with a normal gaming PC or just saving your money for now.
