It starts off really strong, but it gets so bizarre and unfocused as it goes on. Abeds meta humor becomes predictable and kind of annoying.

The show becomes flanderized so quickly. Im in season 3. Does it get better?

Let's just say that season 4 is the "gas leak" season, where all the really weird shit went down. It's OK though, they figured out later that there was a gas leak and the whole thing was a hallucination. Season 5 quality swings back up.

I didnt mind the Harmon-less season. I think the two seasons after that are garb though

I hear people say this a lot but honestly, season 4 was less zany than season 3. In a recent rewatch of the whole series, I actually found season 4 more in line with Community seasons 1-3 than seasons 5 and 6.

For each "zany" episode like the puppet episode, season 4 had more "normal" episodes like the Inspector Spacetime convention (and I use the term normal loosely, normal for Community standards).

I feel like the creators wanted to make a cartoon.

i also feel like while characters get incredibly flanderized, they also just randomly change depending on the whim of whoever is writing.

I cant put my finger on it, but something about it is just really annoying to watch.

Shirley and Abe are the worst to watch. They are basically prisoners of a gimmick. Shirely with her obnoxious speech patterns and Jesus moments, and Abe is just a cartoon character.

I took a long break after a few seasons and came back binging the reat.

Shirley is an interesting one. She starts out as the more rational, normal member of the group. But as it goes on, she has quite the backstory to her.

Kind of happens with all of them. I think Jeff is really the only one that stays somewhat consistent throughout the series. The rest start as broad stereotypes, but like you said, they all have a quality that gets turned up to 11 and because the defining trait of the characters. I do love the times where you realize their behavior isn't really normal and they periodically get called out by the other students on campus.
