Nah, I watched a few clips directly from the movie. Saw a lot of memes and wackiness mixed with depression and nihilism.

Writing "Everything Everywhere All at Once" was a foolish prayer to a cold, indifferent universe. It was a dream about reconciling all of the contradictions, making sense of the largest questions, and imbuing meaning onto the dumbest, most profane parts of humanity. We wanted to stretch ourselves in every direction to bridge the generational gap that often crumbles into generational trauma. It was an attempt to create the narrative equivalent of the Theory of Everything. A Big Data approach to myth-making. A post-genre deconstruction of traditional narrative. A maximalist's manifesto for surviving in the noise of modern life. And holy shit, these two clowns named Daniel were not up for the challenge.

I don't want to lean too heavily into a "pearls before swine" metaphor but you guys have spent the better part of a day arguing with a user who has historically demonstrated the intellectual curiosity of a cinderblock and I have to ask, why? Do you really think, even if you were able to convince this person to watch the movie, that they would come away from it with any sort of appreciation or understanding?

I aint spent the better part of anything doing this lol (its really very little time out of my day but youd be surprised how often people act like it must take all the time in the world to have a conversation here), but the reason boils down to boredom, stubbornness, and spite.

Alright I watched the movie again and I'm changing my rating from 8.1 to 9. It's a good ass movie

It doesn't resonate with me. I never struggled with my parents, never had depression, never experienced a strong desire to escape my current life, etc.

Maybe that's why its messages don't really do anything for me. Its absurd sense of humor is fine for a short youtube video, but it gets very old very quickly when it's also trying to be serious.

i never grew up rich in the early 1900s, never been on a sinking ship, never had a loved one abruptly die....why do people like this titanic movie?

I've never been chased by a robot because I lead some future resistance...just can't relate to those terminator movies. just not for me

it gets very old very quickly. I know this, because I didnt watch the movie. It also doesnt resonate with me because I havent experienced common human things and ALSO possess no empathy. And I watched a video.

nobody cared enough to hate on this movie here until it won awards. i remember i made a topic about it here when it was new and it got like 10 replies and none of them were hating on it. like nobody would give a shit about elden ring either if it wasn't goty either, but now we have 500 topics arguing about the most pointless shit about it. it's CE where you have to prove you're too good for what everybody else enjoys. nothing angers the CE hive more than seeing people enjoy things that aren't niche.

Nah, I watched the trailer, watched some clips directly from the film, got a nice sample of both its drama and its humor... and decided with information and examples that it's not for me.

I said that its sense of humor is wacky, zany meme humor. I acknowledge that it also has dramatic scenes and tries to be profound about the multiverse and existence and nihilism and generational trauma and shit.

I know it has more than just humor. I know it also has 'deep' stuff about life and meaning and shit, too.

Idk, maybe I've seen too many other stories dealing with a nihilist who thinks the multiverse makes all actions pointless, but maybe learns a valuable emotional lesson along the way.

It's not exactly a new story. It's not exactly sending a message that has never been sent before.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Everything Everywhere All At Once. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head.

Rick and Morty has it all over the place. Comic books do it constantly. Notably, one of the DC animated movies called "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" involves a plot by an alternate universe Batman (Owlman) voiced by James Woods who is an absolute nihilist and believes that the only meaningful act in all of the multiverse is to destroy the entire multiverse, as it is the only possible decision in all of existence that will actually have recognizable consequences.

Even Family Guy has a multiverse episode. It's kind of a hot topic these days. Rick and Morty popularized it with the mainstream, but nerds have been doing it for a long time. Now the MCU is dealing with a multiverse villain who has a bunch of different variants with differing views on the meaningfulness of existence, consequences, etc.

His name is Kang the Conqueror and he's been at this shit since the 1960s in comic book form.

It really isn't new. It's just a standard artsy emotional drama injected with epic bacon humor and multiverse shenanigans.
