I havn't played it like 10 years but this card is like only an average monster now

Only LIGHT: Special Summon 1 monster from your GY in Defense Position.
Only DARK: Shuffle 1 random card from your opponent's hand into the Deck.
Both LIGHT and DARK: Destroy up to 2 cards on the field.
You can only use this effect of "Chaos Dragon Levianeer" once per turn.

It's okay, but not as good as a Shapesnatch tribal deck.

Yugioh is the only thing I've ever seen that was power crept from the start.

I'm honestly clueless as to what they expected people to do with 80% of the cards from that OG set.

Having pack filler is a strategy of every tcg though. If everything in the pack was good, you'd only need to buy enough for a deck. Having shitty cards in packs means people buy more packs to get what they need and get things to trade for what they need.

It historically has done well against all of those. Countertop was the last good "Counterspell" deck and it historically did pretty mediocre against NO Elves (even after Terminus), mill is a meme at best and a card that is immune to being milled makes the matchup better, and burn tends to only do things when the opponent is less explosive.

The One Ring recently got spoiled with it, though it is only for a single turn.

Levi is still good with BE. I usually get an easy win with it still I have 3 copies on the deck as well

You don't want to draw it most of the times. Two of the major ways to get it in, with Omniscience and Show and Tell, require it in your hand, yes, but Natural Order is far and away the best reason to run it over an alternative. With Onniscience/Show and Tell why not just run Emrakul or Atraxa? Proggy is relevantly green over Emrakul, which means that Natural Order works, and Atraxa's "draw your deck" isn't as relevant in Elves.

Basically you just want to take it directly from your deck and put it into play using another card. The other card specifies that is has to be green which means that Big Papa Tentacles doesn't apply because it is colorless.

so jesse goes first, does a few cards, gets a monster out and ends his turn. that tracks with me

then, ok, hani's turn, he looks like he's about to start drawing, then jesse starts drawing five cards before hani even begins his draw phase? ok, maybe that's an effect of jesse's monster where he can draw five cards whenever the opponent draws or something like that? but then hani draws 5 and lays them out too. ok makes sense, they each draw 5 and show them to each other, makes sense. and it looks like hani gets to choose an effect from one of the five that jesse was showing

but then wtf, as part of this process, jesse just sets a magic card in what i assume is the banished pile?

also at 4:18, did jesse even shuffle hani's hand? is that an option? it looks like he's just shaking the cards a bit without actually changing any of their positions

i watched straight for two more minutes and the announcer is like "this will be key in stopping jesse's turn"

wtf how is it still his turn

my brain is exploding. is this all just a series of chaining a shitload of monsters together? do we even attack life points anymore or what?

and the crowd erupts at 6:07 for some reason because he discarded a monster? and at the end of all this, the only end effect was summoning a monster? all that for one monster?

and i assume that doesnt even get into xyz/syncro/pendulum/whatever the fuck else is going on

Sorry, can't help you there. I haven't played YGO since before the Kaiba deck launched, sans one game that I had to be told by my opponent how I actually won due to side deck shenanigans (we were both playing one of gis decks).

Jesse didn't end his turn, he thought for a moment and then activated the effect of Kelbek, the Ancient Vanguard. It makes both players mill 5, which then ends up triggering additional effects.

That was Hani's deck. Whenever someone shuffles their deck, the opponent has the right to cut the deck.

That's still the win condition most decks effectively go for, though oftentimes a player will surrender when they're too far behind in terms of card advantage and such.

Hani uses a "handtrap", Herald of Orange Light, to negate one of Jesse's effects. Handtraps are monsters whose effects you can activate from your hand during your opponent's turn to interrupt their plays.

got it. ive never seen a monster effect activated from the hand before but ive been out of the game for at least 15 years so i guess that's a natural evolution of the game

That deck god banned to hell and back at the beginning of Feb so no more mill 20 chain link 50 anymore thank god. Now it's all about that turn 1 6-zone lockout.

Towards the end of the game which is when mill damage will overwhelm them, and they probably lost their necessary cards to even summon it by then

Ishizu Tearlaments (AKA the "Tear 0" deck) just had its best card completely banned and 7 other main cards in the deck limited to 1 all in the same banlist... and many people think the deck is still viable even with these hits. That's how absurdly powerful it was compared to other modern-day decks. It was a deck several years ahead of its time in terms of power level.

EDIT: I forgot, Spright Elf also got banned on the same banlist update. That card was banned primarily for Sprights using it themselves, but a lot of Tear builds used it so it also indirectly nerfed Tear 0 as well.

I think Yugioh would be one of those games that would benefit having a rotation system like Magic to keep the power creep under control. It will also give you the option in printing out fun cards to play without the fear of it being too fast or certain combo's being broken or game breaking. IMO, I think the current meta is just way too fast for my liking, but I can fully understand why others would like it. Being able to play your end game as fast as turn 1 is a dream many TCG's would wish to do.

The problem is that modern design hinges on the gameplay that happens by having this insane power creep. Thus adding rotation would basically kill the game because the style of play would cease to exist and everyone would leave. There is just too much inherent power in the mechanics to tone them down relevantly without just pure removal.
