it didn't say that, it said he found the weapons on the porch of the guys house. he may have gone to confront him and snapped.

people convicted of child sex offenses should be one of the only things that carries life in prison along with premeditated murder and forcible rape and terrorism imo. the fact the sex offender was released 40 years ago makes this puzzling though. hopefully more information comes out.

Authorities say Axtell, 27, allegedly arrived at the police station and admitted to driving to the home of a 77-year-old man, entering the victim's residence, and hitting him over the head "15-20 times with a spade-style shovel" that he allegedly found on his front porch.

Axtell allegedly said he "finished him off" by striking him on the head several times with a large moose antler, the documents state.

God damn.

Prosecutors often won't go for first degree unless it's a slam dunk, no questions on motive or evidence, because it's hard to prove even if it looks blatant. Considering this guy's motive, there could be a sliver of doubt that gets him off. Charging him with second degree ensures he'll get convinced.

Sounds like he should have alerted the cops, not show up at the dude's home and beat him with a shovel then finish him off with a moose antler. For whatever his "good intentions" were worth, the dude is going to jail for them. There are far more simpler ways to accomplish your goals than to commit several felonies.

Citing Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen, the outlet reports Scully was convicted of the sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl in 1979. In 1982, he was released from prison.
Court documents state Axtell believed Scully had "sexually offended children in the past" and observed him "parked in his vehicle at locations where children were present and believed he would reoffend."

Sounds like this guy was just cleaning up his neighbourhood.

I can separate my personal opinion that pedophiles are all subhuman from my work. Im an adult.

Anyone who rapes a six year old child should never have been released back into society in the first place. The way sex crimes are treated in this country is an absolute travesty, and its heart-breaking for the children who have to somehow try to grow and live a normal life after suffering the most horrific violation of their innocence.

The guy said it was a shovel when he turned himself in. That's how blinded by rage he was. Imagine being the police and going to this guy's house to look for a shovel only to find no shovel and a random moose antler covered in blood.

Nah, he had a shovel. He got to the dudes house. Grabbed a shovel from the porch. Broke in and killed the dude, but used the moose antlers as a final blow.

He grabbed the shovel before confronting the dude. The intent is all there.

People who are actively committing violent crimes against other human beings and are killed in the process did, in fact, deserve it.

Theres nothing to downplay. If you try to kill the police or another person and are subsequently killed as a result of that confrontation, then it was your choices that led you there.

Not all police killings are justified, and those that arent should be prosecuted, but Im not going to pretend that someone killed while actively trying to kill the police didnt deserve it.

Aaron Swan killed a police chief, wounded another cop, and then tried to kill two Pittsburgh Detectives.

He was killed in the shootout, and he absolutely deserved it.

Its absolutely realistic to compartmentalize and to separate personal beliefs from professional duty. The vast majority of police, firefighters, paramedics, etc, all do it on a daily basis without issue.

I also am of the personal opinion that dealing fentanyl should carry a mandatory minimum 20 year sentence, and I work primarily narcotics and gang cases, yet Ive had countless interactions with drug dealers wherein were just two people talking after the arrest is made.

Ive literally sat with people that I chased for four blocks and had hour long conversations while we waited for charges to be finalized, transports to be lined up, etc.

Its called being professional, and its truly not that difficult.

Public servants arent going to subscribe to all of your beliefs, and they shouldnt. All that matters is that they leave personal issues at the door on the way in.

That's funny. Because I am of the personal opinion that police should be treated as enemy combatants of a foreign nation. Since that's the way they act.
