I was doing hadoukens and shoryukens on my bed way before yall even started watching DBZ. We not on the same level.

Dragon Ball Z just hit all the right boxes for its time.

I enjoyed BF and watched it while it was airing. I think the sequel isn't as good though? idk

Build Fighters try still a good watch. All the easter eggs make it fun as well.

Gundam build divers tho, I couldn't get into that one.

It was too moody and dark IMO.

Mind you, I love Gundam series, but in comparison to the bright colorful fast paced fighting and jokes in Dragonball? Ain't hard to see.

It just had such a flawless vibe. Serious but also light hearted, intense but rarely 'sad'. Even when everybody dies and the earth explodes, the dragon balls can fix it. It was the perfect introduction to anime for kids and adults of all ages.

A big aspect is also that you put in hard work and get visible and tangible results. It's just satisfying to see.

Yeah, it's loaded with those anime hype moments that became a staple in everything going forward. Goku becoming a Super Saiyan, Gohan SSj2, Trunks wasting Frieza with ease.

It's all such good shit. Gundam tends to be a lot more...mopey. With G-Gundam being one of the few exceptions.

I remember the moment in the time chamber where Gohan was on the cusp of Super Saiyan, where you saw his hair just flash yellow for a second really hyping me up.

And then him and Goku ended up strolling out of it in a causal SSJ, with their hair more like a pastel yellow and no aura.

Only slightly related, My kids have been watching me play through dbz kakarot and absolutely loving it.

This recently reached a fever pitch with the appearance of Recoome, his butt cheeks, and his rectangle head.

They think recoomes rectangular head with hair only on top looks way too much like ferbs head from Phineas and Ferb, and Recoome is now known as Muscle Ferb.

Recoomes penchant for silly poses and animations only exasperated their laughing fits, and after Vegeta gave him a final flash to his backside, had them wailing about how he got blasted in his butt cheeks.

When the smoke cleared, and recoomes outfit had a tear on its butt, because Vegeta did, in fact, blast him in the butt, it was over, sanity had left the house, and there was nothing but the roar of children's uncontrollable laughter at pure slapstick. "HE DID GET HIS BUTT BLOWN UP!!!!!"

Now they can not so much look at a picture of 'Muscle Ferb' without breaking out in fits of laughter.

they do occasionally flit through some animes when browsing through the large library of streams. They try random episodes based on thumbnails.They did try to watch DBZ when they recognized it from the game, but found it too boring to watch. I think they expected it's pacing to be as condensed as the game.

They watched some Voltron, soley because of the robot tigers. They were disappointed every time Voltron came on screen.

Gundam is the boring talking show with boring robots. Said robots would be better if they were dinosaurs I am told.

The only exception is when they came across a thumbnail with Ramba Ral on it, which they found hilarious because they think it's me as a cartoon.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Gundam Wing. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Heero's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE.

But at the risk of posting an unpopular opinion, Gundam is better than DBZ.

It isn't unpopular, it's pretty standard. DBZ is a children's show, Gundam is a teenager one. It lends to having a different audience.

That's such a genuinely childish kind of logic lol. I remember disliking Batman: Mask of the Phantasm's last 10 minutes or so because "the phantasm turns into a girl," as if she was a totally different character somehow after she took the mask off.
