Star Ocean by far.

Much better game overall.

But VE is pretty fun as well. Maybe sub 30 it would be worth it.

Its pretty grindy and the side missions have you replaying the same levels over again. But the combat flows so well that it gets pretty addicting just folding entire rooms full of enemies.

They have a quick weapon switch and magic system to make battles much more dynamic. Every enemy has a weakness that you need to exploit to stagger them and it makes killing them much easier.
