Moved to Florida from California and there is definitely culture shock when it comes to masks. When I left nobody was really wearing masks in stores/restaurants, but a good chunk of workers still wore masks despite it not being mandatory. Got a job at a grocery store doing cashier work, and I decided to mask up once I noticed like 50% of customers are old and/or disabled. Almost every night someone asks why I wear it and try to push the "its okay you're free" angle. If not I can feel silent judgment or some comment on vaccines and/or Biden. I've been lucky a couple days in a row I've had reasonable conversations about it with people a bit more neutral on the subject. I am one of only like 3 cashiers who wear a mask anyways so I can understand the natural curiosity.

The worst part is there's no point educating any of the people who are just weird about it. I just nod my head and disengage, here's your fucking receipt.

I question the guy at work who still wears a mask cause he wears it under his nose. You ain't gotta wear it anymore so if you choose to you should be wearing it right.

It was nice not getting sick all the time. But wearing it for 12 hours straight during the summer with no ac sucked balls. I'd have to bring multiple masks to work cause they'd end up soaked

Every time they start off with "they still make you wear the mask?" or ask if I'm sick. I tell them it's a personal choice and that doesn't stop them from taking their political soapbox.

What did you expect peoples views to be on them when it's the land of Governor Desantis?

With hayfever season on the horizon for me, I'm actually looking forward to donning a mask soon.

Sounds ridiculous, but I wasn't aware of just how helpful they were until the pandemic came around, masking up actually helped with hayfever symptoms. For me, it's crippling, to the point where productivity on my end goes down drastically. I'd rather work with multiple physical injuries instead of dealing with spring / summer lol.

They aren't perfect, but neither were the antihistamines I take, anything to relieve it is alright in my book.

Will no doubt get odd looks, questions and people griping based on where I live in the countryside, couldn't care less though.

I guess I'm lucky that, probably due to my height / build, not one person in Florida has given me shit for masking up for the majority of the past 3 years (there was one old fart a few months ago that went on an unhinged muttering rant under his breath about how he had 'natural immunity' when me and my brother walked by in masks, so I guess that half-counts). I'm the only person in my office who regularly masked up during that time, but thankfully everyone here has a freewheeling 'respect others' attitude (even our resident hardcore Trumper girl); I never gave anyone shit for going maskless, and they returned the favor in kind.

Just respond to every single comment with, "No, I wear it to hide my RBF." If they make follow-up questions/comments, just repeat, "I wear it to hide my RBF"

I run my own business. There is nothing that says I have to wear a mask or not. If I have the sniffles (and I know I'm COVID free because I test almost every third day) or I'm working around elderly people I still wear a mask. I've yet to have someone question me why.

Perhaps because I don't live in the US?!

Tell them you wear it because you're free, or that it holds back your dragon power.

I'm similar, only I don't get hayfever for the most part. Being someone who, for the most part, needs to go into peoples roof spaces or under houses though, the dust build up and insulation can take its toll, not to mention desicrated corpses of mice, rats, bats or possums lol

I'm tired of hearing this when it comes to FL

Obviously this is a garbage state and leaving it would be beneficial, but parts of me wants this state to improve from being the close-minded shit hole I grew up in

I do this. But then I'm not really wearing it for protection anymore but more because I feel naked without one in public now.
