even if we don't meet aliens, will humans fight each other outside the atmosphere of Earth? Whether it is on the moon, on Mars, or out in open space. I wonder if we will colonize the solar system but different earth nations will take different spots in the system, and we will have battles over territory

The wars of the future wont be fought on a battle or at sea. They will be fought with space, or no possibly o a very tall mountain. Either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today, remember always, your duty is clear. To build and maintain those robots.

The most impressive thing about the space dogfights in Star Wars is that every single craft is in complete agreement about which is the "right" way up to fly -- in space, where there is no gravity and no "up" or "down".

When it comes to lasers fired that miss their target, would they just go on and on through the universe forever until they hit something, or would the laser eventually dissipate?

They never talk about the collateral damage in Star Trek -- when cities on peaceful planets are struck by stray photon torpedoes fired in space battles light years away, causing horrific civilian casualties. Just how many people has Kirk killed with poor marksmanship?

The latter. But the statistics of them not hitting something are very funky in a very Schrodinger's Cat sort of way.

i don't really see anything worth the effort for it.

the targets are still on ground, the only reason to fight in space is if there's something of value in space that needs to be destroyed/defended

If someone creates a super laser beam weapon in space! Can our rockets target something out of the atmosphere? I wanna say no but I'm real dumb about stuff like this.

We went to the moon on a rocket. A rocket with payload instead of people shouldn't be that hard to imagine.

It's easy to assume they manually or automatically detonate them if miss, for that exact reason

What if the laser beam space weapon shoots the rocket out of the sky

And now you have figured out why rockets wouldn't be used period.
