I'm actually surprised how many vote Frodo gets, I always figured Sam as the true hero.

The movies don't do justice just how hard it was for Frodo to be carrying the ring all that way to the end. He is definitely a true hero. That said, I still voted for Samwise Gamgee.

Frodo would have given in to the ring's bullshit long before Mt Doom if Sam hadn't been with him.

Why didn't they just put the ring in a box or something, that way anybody can carry it without being corrupted

Funny story about the Eagles. They were called to do a local festival here a few years ago, they thought they were playing in another city with the same name, but much bigger population. Instead of laughing it off as their mistake, when they landed they refused to take pictures with people who won contest tickets to the festival, stayed in their trailer, and performed a single song before getting on the plane and heading out of our province. In other words, fuck the Eagles. Meanwhile, KISS who are widely known as some of the biggest assholes in music stayed not only for the full 2 hours they were booked, but came back and played an extra 1/2 hour in the freezing cold April rain.

Glad to see that the objectively correct answer is getting the most votes.

Wow, that is petty. Did the company organizing the event give the audience any kind of compensation at least?

They came out about 2 years later and ended up saying that they would no longer be bringing in big bands anymore. That they weren't worth the added cost and aggravation to deal with. That being a year after they had a pretty bad festival where they were short on a bunch of supplies, unable to give people ample amounts of water during a heat wave, and there were a lack of portable toilets outside (it was on a baseball field).

Probably the book readers, they always said that the movie downplays Frodo 's struggle by a lot and give too much focus on Sam.

Sam and Aragorn are both equal in their heroics.

It's hard to pick out of Frodo and Sam. Easy gut answer is Sam considering Frodo technically gave in... but in the end, Frodo actually making it to the volcano was what was needed to happen. I believe I read once that no one would have been able to resist the temptation of the ring, and that the closer you are to the it's birthplace, the stronger it's hold on you would be. That leads me to believe that had Sam been in possession of the ring at that spot, he too would have succumbed to the dark arts.

A stroke of luck was truly the only way of getting rid of that ring. But the truth of the matter is that Sam was there to save Frodo... but Frodo was there to save his people.

And do keep in mind, Frodo was the one who chose to spare Gollum. Sam wanted Gollum dead. Without Gollum, the circumstances that saved the world would not have happened.

Frodo since he was slammed with the influence of the one ring the closer he got to Mount Doom yet only at the last moment does he fail.

Keep in mind that he makes it all the way to the end and only fails because the ring pulled out all the stops to prevent being dropped to its destruction. No one else had the ring that long and was not calling it my precious.

Bilbo had the ring for longer then Frodo and was the only person who willingly gave it up too.
