Am I a curmudgeon for rolling my eyes at man children stuff

Like, men in their mid 20s and up that still watch things like Power Rangers, Teen Titans, rooms filled with toys, even bedsets.
It's not serious at the end of the day, but I don't understand how you can find that stuff stimulating at such an age.

I think I've seen some pretty cool setups as far as toy/figure collections go, in acrylic cases/shelves with awesome lighting and stuff. If it's all scattered about that's a little concerning but still harmless I guess. I wouldn't imagine you would "play" with toys, but collect them at that age instead. Watching shows isn't really a big deal to me. Having a full on bedspread of Power Rangers or something would be pretty cringe at that age, though.

Also the answer is yes, you are a curmudgeon, but that's okay. There's nothing wrong with not liking things, or thinking people are weird for liking things you don't like.

As long as they're reasonably well adjusted, what's the issue? As already mentioned, it's no different than hardcore sports fans with all their memorabilia everywhere or other collectors of stuff. Someone who collects figures is a weirdo, but someone who collects antiques or sports memorabilia is an enthusiast. Then again, the bed sheets are a bit much.

Now excuse me while I add to my sports collection, rave about sports, bet on sports, watch others play sports and burn my city down when my sports loses.

Yes
Not just watching sports though, even though I don't. These shows are written for children, so their themes are geard towards kids. Sports, especially big games, are about actual people achieving or missing their life goals, it's at least drama I can identify with at 39.

No you're not. The core problem with people like that is not that they enjoy those things or have those sort of setups. The problem is that they place undue importance on entertainment. CE is going to ridicule you for your view because it is filled precisely with that type of person.

You are for sure, but I'm curious about a few things

You single out men, are women immune to this train of thought?
How people decorate their bedroom has no effect on you, so why even care?
Are you against all entertainment based decorations? I assume you have none yourself?
Do you think less of these people?

Tbh I have an aunt obsessed with Disney/Disney World, she's one of the best and hardest working people I know. Even if she had Mickey Mouse bedsheets I would still respect the hell out of her. You're allowed your own opinions obviously, but I don't see the point in being so judgmental.

I dont think theres anything wrong with still enjoying childish things at any age, as long as youre still well adjusted otherwise as another poster said. Nothing wrong with displaying a few figures you like.

However it does kind of raise my eyebrow a bit when you see a grown ass man (like over 30) who has no interest in anything other than that kind of stuff. Like a bookshelf full of nothing but Marvel comics or Star Wars books. Its good to branch out and explore things a bit more, including more serious adult stuff. But I know some people who have absolutely no interest in anything else other than more nerdy (including some kid and young adult stuff) kind of media, and I have been scoffed at for saying I read non-fiction books, etc.

There is almost no way to define "done correctly" in a way that is meaningful to a wide enough population of people.

It is going to differ, wildly in some cases.

Doesn't mean it's unimportant.

Right. It has no weight on a person value. I'm just saying, I really don't get it, and it makes me roll my eyes. I then reflect on my own thoughts and feelings and determine that it's not a big deal. Getting angry over this stuff is childish. I get the strong feeling that if we had this exchange in person, you would be much more mellow.

You missed the key word "undue." There are people out there whose entire lives revolve around the consumption of flavor-of-the-day entertainment. I'm on a video game website right now, so I'm certainly not against consuming entertainment (and I spent several hours last night playing a Dragon Quest game) . However, when all you consume in your free time is commercial entertainment, you tend to have a narrower understanding of the world than if you were to, say, learn history, read classic literature, or learn something about the hard sciences.

Think about it this way. One day we are all going to die. Isn't it better to die having engaged in some thrilling entertainment, while also engaging in life long self education and developing some sort of impressive skill along the way? I think that is better than solely dedicating one's free time to entertainment. I can also say from experience that having cut back on excessive entertainment consumption to do other things has allowed me to appreciate the entertainment that I do consume.

I think the common element between these things that are regarded as "childish" is that they, like entertainment meant for children, require minimal background knowledge going in. Whearas if someone were reading classic literature, they would need to have some knowledge of that place and time to get the most out of the work. If someone were to read War and Peace for instance, they would need to know at least a little bit about the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and Russian history to get the most out of it.

And since you mentioned Star Wars, your friend would surely get more out of it if he were familiar with Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, people that an educated person would know about, if even in passing.
