Why are boomers always so entitled that they tell other people what to enjoy.

You missed the key word "undue." There are people out there whose entire lives revolve around the consumption of flavor-of-the-day entertainment. I'm on a video game website right now, so I'm certainly not against consuming entertainment (and I spent several hours last night playing a Dragon Quest game) . However, when all you consume in your free time is commercial entertainment, you tend to have a narrower understanding of the world than if you were to, say, learn history, read classic literature, or learn something about the hard sciences.

Think about it this way. One day we are all going to die. Isn't it better to die having engaged in some thrilling entertainment, while also engaging in life long self education and developing some sort of impressive skill along the way? I think that is better than solely dedicating one's free time to entertainment. I can also say from experience that having cut back on excessive entertainment consumption to do other things has allowed me to appreciate the entertainment that I do consume.
The nihilistic angle is odd, if "we are all going to die anyway" is your viewpoint then I'd think the correct outlook is spend as much time doing what you love.

Just let people enjoy what they enjoy and your reaction doesn't honestly matter imo.

Not in a rude way mind, more that... Rolling your eyes at something you don't "get" isn't problematic, I wouldn't say it makes you a curmudgeon either. Everyone does it in some way.

Granted I get that a lot. I don't care to watch shows, tv, movies, or sports. I do the bare minimum to keep up with popular culture as a chore basically. If I do something on a screen it's usually work or gaming, or reading.

Engage in your passions whatever they may be (so long as they cause no harm, obv.)

Placing things like "classic literature" on a pedestal is hilariously Anglocentric though.
And he's resorted to allusions of racism. Pretty vile behavior, imo.

Shut the fuck up.

I'm saying elevating of "classic literature" tends to only ever refer to literature from the Western English speaking world is the problem.

Eat my ass.

Not a curmudgeon, just mildly insufferable with a myopic view of how people should derive joy and entertainment in life

Anglocentric is the incorrect word to use, then. While anglocentric people do view the world through a predominately western lens, that does not mean that everyone that views the world from a western lens is anglocentric. Anglocentric is a very specific word that does not apply to the entirety of the western hemisphere.

Sometimes I roll my eyes at stuff like that and even at stuff like anime. Then I remember that I do some lame stuff too that people.would roll their eyes at. So it is all good, as long as people are happy.

An internalized eye roll is a valid initial response. Youre not necessarily judging or trying to control what a person likes here. But theres a reason the geek/brony/comicbook etc stereotype exists. Not everyone falls into it but the Venn diagram overlaps for sure. Walk into any tabletop retail store and youll see the trees for the forest.

My thoughts don't need challenging here.

Find value in what you want to, let others value what they want. This fucking idea that you need to be interested in things canonized by Academia as worth spending your time on needs to be thrown out the window.

Also yes, Anglocentric wasn't what I meant.

It's because you can learn to love something that you have never tried before, and having more options can be a good thing. However, I certainly wouldn't encourage someone to continue doing something that leaves them miserable if they've given it a fair chance.

I don't understand how you can find that stuff stimulating at such an age.

I don't understand how you find asking dumb questions and shit stirring on CE stimulating but here we are.
