I love PS1 jrpgs, esp if they have a good aesthetic.

But i also love 3ds games that are well animated.

Which should i play. I now own them both.

i havent played the 3ds version but i assume it has the incredibly obnoxious phonetically written dialects that all the other dq remakes have, so i would go with the ps1 one for readability reasons

The 3DS version cuts the overly-long into by about half.

There's no real definitive version.

3DS lags out in menus and doesn't allow second tier jobs to keep their skills if you swap to a new one, but the PS1 script is super dry, no radar to help find hidden fragments and jobs take longer to grind out.

Went through 3DS when it came out and PS1 in 2021 and both were definitely the series' low point
