through satellites and telescopes, we detect an alien civilization. But we can't get to them, see them or even have a normal conversation. We know they are the same technology level as us. We can send what's essentially an email, but they will not read it for 100 years. Then they will reply and earth has to wait another 100 years to get the reply And thats pretty much it. In this scenario, humans are never able to get out of our solar system Would you be satisfied just to know they are out there or would you be depressed about not being able to see them? ... If they're not too far away, I'm sure someone would want to send a satellite or go on a long journey there. Sure the trip would take thousands of years with our current tech, but maybe if we utilized cryogenics it might be feasible. ... Copied to Clipboard!

That would be the ideal scenario, actually.
