Jack in to the latest Legacy Collection compiling all 6 mainline MMBN games (10 total when you account for different versions) with various bells and whistles as well as online multiplayer and adding in all 499 patch cards that were previous Japan only. Averaging a 79 through 28 reviews reviewers loved some of the new quality of life additions, but found all the entries to be too much of the same thing and since these games are pretty long compared to the platformers it may be a case of TOO MUCH MEGAMAN for some of them.

Digital Chumps - 9.8/10
The Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is a stellar example of how a classic series can and should be remastered for superfans and new players alike. For Battle Network superfans, this game hits the spot in the nostalgia department and gives us North American players access to once-exclusive content we weren't able to access in the early 2000s. For new players, having all of the Battle Network games in one place is great for continuity and opportunity for younger folks to play an incredibly fun set of titles. Even more, offering multiplayer right from the jump gives me hope that the Battle Network series will live on into the next-gen of gaming. Regardless of your familiarity with this series, the Collection's graphical updates and gameplay additions, like the Buster MAX Mode, breathe much needed new life into some of the older titles. I am thrilled to see the Mega Man Battle Network series return with more content than ever, and the Collection makes an incredibly easy recommendation for something to play this Spring: If you're looking to get your hands on a collection of classic titles remastered in all the right ways, look no further than Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection.

NintendoLife - 9/10
It's clear that a lot of effort and love went into Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection; this is a worthwhile re-release that gives you a lot of bang for your buck. While everyone will have their favorite, the Mega Man Battle Network series remained remarkably consistent throughout its whole run, due in no small part to the innovative battle system and charming storylines present in each entry. If you're a fan of Mega Man and haven't given these games a shot yet, you owe it to yourself to pick this one up immediately. Even if you're not a Rockman enthusiast, these games each offer up some inventive RPG experiences that are certainly worth your time.

Hardcore Gamer - 8.5/10
Capcom is quickly running out of Mega Man games to remaster, with notable exclusions being Battle Network Transmission, Command Mission, Legends and Star Force, but they continue to release incredible value propositions that bring these classics to a brand new generation of players.

ShackNews - 8/10
Aside aside, thats what this particular Legacy Collection is all about, to me. In a lot of ways the early Game Boy Advance years were all over the place. The rules hadnt been established yet, and the potential was higher than ever. Anime had penetrated the mainstream, Call of Duty didnt exist and nobody really hated Sonic the Hedgehog yet. Experiments and sequel vomiting could happen at the same time, and games were still small enough to support niche audiences of all sizes. Battle Network, especially in retrospect, feels like a poster child of that time. Its probably a little overwhelming to dive in now, and lord knows how corny the Y2K tech jargon reads, but you cant find a better singular piece of media that sums it all up so neatly.

Siliconera - 8/10
Mega Man Battle Network felt so different when it debuted in 2001, and it still manages to feel unique in 2023. The concepts and ideas are still fun, and the ambiance and art direction are timeless too. Yes, there might not always be earth-shattering improvements between entries, but every game is built on a solid foundation and enjoyable. Especially if you really get into deck-building and care about the characters and their world.

Nintendo World Report - 7.5/10
Regardless, as far as compilation re-releases go, you're getting basically all the Mega Man Battle Network experiences in a single package, and the achievements, online play, and bonus art make this the definitive way to play these 10 GBA games. If you're completely new to the series, know that the individual experiences on offer here don't change too much from MMBN 1 to 6; do your homework before committing to purchasing and playing more than one of these games. As an interesting departure from the action-platforming of other Mega Man titles, the Battle Network line certainly has my respect, but I'm not in a hurry to wade through all the repetition built into the MMBN Legacy Collection.

Screen Rant - 7/10
Capcom collections of older games tend to be great, and this new set is a wonderful example of the care they put into making them easy to navigate and exciting to find lots of the extra content that many players may not have had access to originally. The art gallery with concept art and official artwork for events plus the music player of 188 songs are wonderful to have included with the games. Overall, the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is a very well-crafted trip down memory lane and will be a true treasure to fans of the original games, and fun for new players to have that much content provided.

Hey Poor Player - 3/5
There are a ton of games in the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, but because the six titles have so little to differentiate them from each other, its hard to see anyone but the most hardcore of fans wanting to run through the entire series. I enjoyed revisiting these games from my youth but came away ready to leave them in the past. For those who just want to dip their toes in, Capcom has provided the option to purchase only the first or second half of the series separately instead of buying the entire larger collection. While its not quite as good of a deal on a per-game basis, for those who just want a quick nostalgia hit, that may be the way to go.

otoh, giving a higher score because of the consistent quality of the games may be even dumber in this particular case...

Reviews for ports/collections are always funny to me. Like, I don't care how you rate the game themselves, I know what they are worth. I only care about how it's rated as a collection that aims to fix problems that the originals had.
Did they add running from battles to MMBN1? did they fix the panic music in 4 and 6? The internet color in 3? The removed stuff in 6? How is the online?
Stuff like that is what truly matters

I think it's an actual consideration in wanting to play them or not. Like you sign up for all these games thinking it'll last you for ages but then you may not want to keep going. It's fair to recommend just buying part 1 or 2 for people who are unsure if they'll find themselves in that category.

Info for you.
The scripts for all six games are exactly the same as their GBA counterparts, right down to iconic typos, mistranslations and errors. "Legs go, Lan!" and "Load Chaud" chief among them.

  • Operate Shooting Star's quality-of-life tweaks are entirely non-existent. This is the GBA version through and through.
  • FlameMan's abbreviated name "FlamMan" is the same.
  • EraserMan's name was not restored to KillerMan.

Booooo
Also not mentioned but I am sure it's the same - permenant 1 HP loss from using Dark Chips in 4
So it's still a useless feature, great

Are they attacks? I don't understand why you would ever take permanent HP loss to use an attack.

Dark chips were ultimately pointless and existed just to be edgy. There was really no reason to bother with them.

Great sales according Famitsu.

https://www.rockman-corner.com/2023/04/mega-man-battle-network-legacy_20.html?m=1

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection launched worldwide on April 14th. Roughly a week later, the first sales report has come out from Japan - and it's looking good. For the week between April 10th to April 16th, Famitsu reports that the Nintendo Switch version has sold 52,375 units charting at #1 and the PlayStation 4 version charted at #5 selling 7,871 units. Basically, the collection sold approximately 60,246 units in three days, selling more than all Mega Man X Legacy Collection versions (1, 2 and 1+2 bundle) combined and Mega Man 11 in a similar period of time (in Japan).
This number only accounts for physical sales in Japan. Worldwide digital and physical sales have yet to be disclosed but this bodes well overall. MMBNLC could be on track to become the next million seller in the Mega Man franchise.
